Job Title: Garden Coordinator
The Village School is a public charter school serving children in grades K-8th.
Description and Duties: The Village School seeks a part time Garden Coordinator to work 3 – 5 days per week. The Garden Coordinator manages educational and courtyard gardens including:
- Coordinate volunteer hours and service days, lead small groups of students in garden maintenance activities, and interface with partner organizations.
- Cultivate organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and perennials.
- Soil cultivation, weeding, pruning, watering, mulching, composting, cover cropping, harvesting, pathways maintenance, regularly engaging with community volunteer and on-site visitors, leading open-garden volunteer days
- Orderly maintain garden shed and its surroundings, tools, equipment, and materials.
- As time permits, support groundskeeping activities: grass mowing, weeding and beautification of grounds.
- Depending on organization priorities, care for chickens, provide educational opportunities for students, and maintain space per landscaping goals.
Qualifications
- Prior experience with gardening, landscaping and volunteer coordination
- Ability to communicate and interact with children and adults in a positive manner
- Strong child management skills preferred
- Knowledge of Waldorf Curriculum is helpful
- Willingness to get CPR training
- Fingerprinting/Background check required`
- Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds and up to 50 pounds on occasion
Wage: $20.20 - $22.74 Hourly (pay increases beyond $22.74 with additional service)
Work Year: Sept – Aug
Schedule: 10-14 hours/week - Flexible hours – Reduced hours in summer with volunteer help
