Nearby Nature Lead Instructor
Location: Outdoors in Nearby Nature’s Learnscape & in Alton Baker Park (Eugene, Oregon) (See nearbynature.org/programs to learn more.)
Qualifications:
Experience working with Pre-K-5th graders, preferably outdoors
Able to work on your feet for 4 to 8 hours a day/hike on uneven trails
Willing to work outdoors in all seasons, in all weather
Knowledge of natural history, Pacific Northwest preferred (or willingness to learn)
Committed to creating an inclusive and safe learning environment for all children
Understanding of trauma-informed teaching practices
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, flexibility
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Spanish language fluency desired, but not required
Responsibilities:
Serve as a Lead Instructor/Substitute Instructor for various school year (September-June) outdoor programs as needed, including Natural Neighbors After School, No School Day Adventures, and our Wonder Keepers Preschool, times vary depending on programs (most likely 8:30 am-12:30 pm, 8:30 am-4:30 pm or 2-5:30 pm)
o Help develop seasonal units and deliver lesson plans
o Facilitate outdoor activities with an emphasis on exploration, discovery, fun, and safety
o Supervise/mentor teaching assistants and volunteers
o Communicate effectively with program assistants, children, and parent/guardians
Option to assist with/lead additional programs such as School Nature Walks, Nature Quests, and Summer Daycamps depending on skills and Nearby Nature staffing needs
Maintain CPR and First Aid certification and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations
Wage and Benefits: 5-15 hours/week September-mid-June 2024 (school year programs), possible additional up to 40 hours/week mid-June-August 2025 (summer daycamps), $17/hour starting wage. Sick time available.
