The Springfield Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #2145, is currently accepting resumes for the position of Pantry Chef/Dishwasher. This is a part-time position with a core tour-of-duty weekdays, Wednesday through Friday, from approximately 4 pm until 8 pm. The employee will sometimes be scheduled for extra shifts and days depending upon Lodge needs for special events and banquets.

This position is responsible for preparing and assembling hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and deep-fried finger foods and appetizers, assisting the Entrée Chef, prep work, and washing dishes. The employee must work collegially with other kitchen and wait staff that are both paid and Lodge volunteers.

We prefer someone who has a minimum of 3 months’ commercial kitchen experience, or at a minimum, an aptitude for learning. We can teach the right person. Applicants must be over 18 years old, speak English, and have reliable transportation.

Applicants must have or obtain a current Food Handlers permit if hired. A positive attitude and well-groomed, presentable appearance are essential. Must be able to work a variety of hours including some split shifts and weekends. This position has a basic set work schedule; Wednesday Through Friday, 4pm to 8 pm. Additional work hours will be scheduled to meet the needs of the lodge. The applicant must be friendly and enjoy working with others. Successful applicants must pass background checks and drug screening. This is a Position of Trust.

JOB TITLE: Pantry Chef/Dishwasher

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Receive food orders and prepare hot or cold sandwiches, salads, hot appetizers and finger foods. Display knowledge of food preparation, sanitation and sanitary food handling. Assist with loading and unloading dishwasher. Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor to include cross-training. Keep work areas clean and organized. Promptly report any unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lift and carry food and beverage trays, food and beverage containers, glass racks, etc. (average weight of 5-35 lbs.). Standing/walking on cement, tile. Reaching/overhead extension to pull items down. Pushing and pulling bus carts (weight frequently 15-75lbs, maximum weight 100lbs). Repetitive motions of bending, kneeling, stooping, and twisting.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Working with and exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, dust, and noise. Working with and around all types of kitchen equipment (i.e. oven, slicer, steamer, stock pots, deep-fryer, stove tops, heat lamp, toaster, etc.). Must adhere to the Lodge safety standards and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 18 years old, Food Handlers permit. Read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate with team members effectively. Reliable personal or public transportation.

COMPENSATION: Rate of pay will depend upon skills and experience. One 10-minute personal break per every four hours worked. One free meal (Chef’s Choice) per shift.
