At Camp Tamarack we host overnight outdoor school and summer camp and we’re looking for a Medical Director to join us for our 2024 season from April until October to provide comprehensive health care to all program participants at Camp Tamarack. Ideal candidates for this position love working outside, love working with kids, and are interested in medically supporting program participants. How We Make This Position Sustainable:

Potential Year-Round Employment: On-site, full-time employment from April to Oct. and full-time work teaching in classrooms and after-school programming with Bend Parks and Rec. from Nov. to March with a winter housing stipend provided.

FULL Room and Board: There is no cost to staff for housing, meals (when programming is running), internet, utilities, and laundry seven days a week for your entire season of employment!

Paid “Sick or Sad” leave: Whether you get sick or just need a mental health day, we offer accruing paid leave for our employees. 1 full day of pay earned for each session worked, 1 day for Spring Outdoor School, 1 day for Summer Camp, and 1 day for Fall Outdoor School.

Wellness Stipend: After a year of employment, we offer a monthly wellness stipend to put towards health care, a gym membership, counseling, exercise equipment or class, or whatever you do to promote your personal wellness.

Dates:

We are hiring a Medical Director who can commit to our entire April to October position! Please note that there are breaks in between sessions.

2024 Season Dates:

Spring Outdoor School: April 7th-June 7th

Summer Camp: June 16th-August 28th

Fall Outdoor School: September 9th-October 30th

Optional: Winter Classroom Outreach and Bend Parks and Rec: Full-time work teaching in classrooms for our Central Oregon schools and providing after-school programming from November - March.

Weekly Salary:

Starting Pay is $725 - $825 per week, there is no cost to staff for housing, meals (when programming is running), internet, utilities, and laundry seven days a week for your entire season of employment!

Job Functions:

Assess individual health needs and provide appropriate interventions for students and staff. This may require hiking or walking moderate distances from the main camp area, or climbing ladders to access students in bunk beds.

Establish and maintain procedures to secure, monitor, and administer all medication brought to camp per administrative rules and policies.

Remain on-site and on-call for 24-hour coverage to provide consultation and/or intervention to ill or injured program participants.

Request equipment from Camp Tamarack and maintain an adequately equipped dispensary.

Maintain records and reports as required.

Initiate and maintain communication with caregivers of program participants as needed.

Make recommendations to the Camp Director when a program participant should be removed from the site due to a suspected communicable disease or injury that needs further medical intervention.

Communicate with others utilizing appropriate verbal and non-verbal interactions.

Delegate, train, and supervise appropriate site staff in selected nursing tasks as appropriate for the individual health needs of students or staff.

Attend staff training as needed.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Supervise and support students experiencing overstimulation, “big emotions,” and homesickness in the Sensory Room.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Valid Oregon license to practice as an EMT, Registered Nurse, or Certified Nursing Assistant

Current CPR/First Aid card.

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to walk/hike moderate distances and climb ladders to access bunk beds.

Living and Working Conditions:

The position is working from Sunday- Friday for Summer Camp and Monday- Friday, for Fall Outdoor School. The Medical Director is on-call and works with program participants as needed throughout this time. There will be an additional Summer-only Medical Director in addition to this position.

Employment is temporary and subject to school/ camper participation schedule. This position works in an overnight camp setting.
