POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Specialist position is supervised by the Finance Director and works with the Staff Accountant to complete the accounts payable function. Additionally, the position is responsible for assisting in the finance department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage full cycle of Accounts Payable from matching invoices and back-up paperwork to entering into software, cutting checks and filing

Manage petty cash and ensure that receipts and approvals are on file

Assist the Finance Director with special projects related to fiscal management of agency

Coordinate setup of meetings, including scheduling, agendas and minutes

Job duties may expand as needed and as knowledge and ability is demonstrated

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree in Accounting or higher or two years of experience in the accounting field, preferably in accounts payable

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (or similar accounting software)

Two years’ experience in record-keeping and file-management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Nonprofit accounting experience

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with ability to prioritize

Capacity to think independently and use mature professional judgment

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to conducting and compiling research

Ability to take initiative and balance multiple tasks simultaneously

Able to work with distractions and busy surroundings

Able to attend to detail and accuracy

Able to interact in professional and pleasant manner at all times

Ability to learn quickly, willing to ask questions to clarify information and able to get up to speed in short period of time

Flexible to respond to unanticipated needs and re-prioritize work tasks as necessary

Capable of respecting and maintaining confidentiality

Valid Oregon Driver’s license, driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy

Ability to pass agency criminal background check

Completion of TB test, provided by agency

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required

Repetitive use of hands such as grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity necessary to perform various clerical duties such as typing, writing and maintaining files.

Frequent use of arms such as pushing/pulling to open and close drawers and cabinets.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time at assigned station.

Ability to bend and/or reach, and to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds (boxes of copy paper and/or files for storage).

Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for normal processing of work

WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL AND ENVIRONMENT:

The duties of the job require regular attendance

5 days per week for a minimum of 30-40 hours per week

Must be available to work before 9:00 am, after 5:00 pm or on weekends, as required

Travel to other locations as necessary to complete accounting functions
