Reports To: Program Director

Status: Part-time; 20 hours per week

Pay: $20/hour

Benefits: Paid Time Off, 4% 403(b) Pension

Job Description:

The Shelter Support Staff works at our Opportunity Village shelter site. This position is intended to work at the site primarily on weekends. The Shelter Support Staff works as part of a small team providing support and assistance to adults experiencing homelessness who reside at Opportunity Village. This position will serve as the primary staff presence at Opportunity Village on weekends, and coordinate with other shelter staff to maintain operations throughout the week. In addition, the Shelter Support staff will provide relief coverage as needed. This position is located at Opportunity Village in Eugene’s Trainsong Neighborhood (Roosevelt Blvd. and Bethel).

Job Responsibilities:

-Provide staff presence at Opportunity Village (primarily on weekends) as the agent of SquareOne Villages.

-Provide assistance to the clients, and ensure adherence to the code of conduct, community agreements, and all rules and policies.

-Assist with enforcement of the code of conduct, rules, and policies

-Respond to and process incident reports

-Respond to residents’ concerns and questions

-Respond to facilities issues

-Assist other shelter staff with organizing, assigning, and supervising completion of chore responsibilities.

-As needed, help maintain inventory of basic supplies, purchase supplies, and pick-up donated materials as directed by shelter staff.

-Maintain and route communications from potential and waitlisted applicants, and serve as a point of contact with outside agencies. Respond to waitlisted applicants and potential applicants by monitoring agency voicemail and email.

-Assist with administrative tasks as assigned by shelter site lead; complete documentation of incident reports; provide notices to residents; and assist with resident communications.

-Assist with regular unit inspections as assigned by shelter site lead, including documentation and notices to occupants.

-Complete minor and routine facilities and unit maintenance/repair as assigned by shelter site lead.

-With other shelter staff, respond to emergencies.

-Provide regular reports to SOV shelter staff.

Essential Qualifications:

-Previous experience working with people who have been homeless or marginalized; experience working in alternative shelter communities is highly desirable.

-Ability to maintain empathy with clients while maintaining appropriate personal boundaries.

-Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and ability to stay neutral and unbiased in addressing interpersonal conflict.

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills; working knowledge of word processing and data entry software, including Google suite.

-Demonstrated experience in administrative duties, community relations, and collaboration with multiple local community organizations and initiatives.

-Well-organized, with a strong track record of fulfilling administrative duties.

-Commitment to social justice for people living in poverty, and a thoughtful approach to strategies for achieving it.

-Lives in or near Eugene with a reliable vehicle and Oregon driver’s license.

-Able to climb stairs and lift at least 35 lbs.

-Satisfactory criminal background check by SOV.
