Flagger/Pilot Car Driver

Position Summary

If you enjoy the open road and seek part-time work on an as-needed basis, this is a great opportunity for you! As a Flagger/Pilot Car Driver, you will escort trucks to and from pickup and delivery locations, ensuring the safety of the traveling public and preventing damage to the highway system and transported loads. Your role is crucial in minimizing delays and maintaining smooth traffic flow.

Essential Duties

Escort oversized or overweight loads, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

Monitor traffic conditions and report hazards or issues to your supervisor immediately.

Communicate effectively with truck drivers and other flaggers using CB radios.

Maintain proper speed as determined by management and ensure safety during escorts.

Adhere to and enforce safety rules and regulations throughout all truck escorts to ensure the safety of personnel and the public.

Follow designated routes as per permits and management instructions.

Utilize a height pole when necessary to ensure safe clearance for loads.

Provide excellent customer service to drivers and the public.

Participate in all required training sessions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Collaborate with team members to facilitate safe passage for oversized loads.

Demonstrate knowledge of state traffic regulations and escort protocols.

Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of escort activities.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver’s license and a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience required.

Clean driving record as reflected in an MVR over the past three (3) years, with no serious traffic violations or major preventable accidents.

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test in compliance with DOT regulations/company policy.

Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a flagging or pilot car driving role is highly desirable.

Familiarity with oversized load permits and transportation regulations.

Basic knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform tasks associated with traffic control, including standing for extended periods and maintaining awareness of surroundings in various weather conditions.
