We are starting a payments business focused on onboarding online merchants to Bitcoin. All our solutions are fully non-custodial (we never intermediary funds) and put merchants in control of their own finances. We are initially focusing on merchants in the adult industry as they traditionally face banking discrimination (even though their work is legal) and high credit card processing fees. We can charge them much less for the same service and pocket the difference. Credit card fees for typical merchants are 3-5%, adult sites often pay double that. Plus payments take weeks to fully settle and there is always chargeback risk. Bitcoin lightning fees are <1%, settle instantly, and have no chargeback risk.
About us:
Alex (sysdmin) - 10+ years of experience running small IT businesses. Current owner of Springfield Data Recovery, part owner of Cascadia Data Recovery. Knowledgeable about Bitcoin, programming (mostly Python), sysadmin/infrastructure (LAMP, docker, etc). He can setup all the payment infrastructure, checkout forms, etc.
Collin (Account Management/Operations) - 10+ years of experience working in various tech companies in Customer Success, HR, Enablement, and Operations teams ranging from small subcontracting vendors, to IT teams, and scaling new functions at companies like Zoom. He is adept at tackling new challenges and has a strong focus on a people-first approach in processes, systems, and business.
You (web development) - Build out our website(s) for marketing purposes.
The ideal candidate:
- Several years of HTML/CSS/JS experience to help us build out marketing websites. SEO knowledge appreciated.
- Local to Eugene/Springfield, OR
- Able to work well independently or in groups, be accountable to deadlines
- Able to think big, take responsibility for their role and furthering the business as a whole
- Interested in not just clocking in at an hourly wage, but working to grow a new business
- Passionate about Bitcoin and interested in onboarding new users
- Up to date on recent covid and flu shots. We'll be sharing an office.
- Interested in becoming a full partner after reasonable vesting period
- Experience building sales pipelines
- All other things equal, candidates who are interested in putting up some money/equity will be given greater consideration. Each of us are putting in $5k so that would be approximately what we would expect from a new partner. But it's all up for discussion and modification.
Why now? Bitcoin is a growing economy, and the scaling issues encountered during the last adoption cycle (high fees, network congestion) have been solved by Bitcoin lightning. 20% of Americans own cryptocurrency. 40% of them have cash app, which is compatible with Bitcoin lightning. The rest have PayPal, Venmo, or some other Bitcoin-compatible wallet. Regulatory environment continues to improve for Bitcoin.
Timeline: We are looking to launch this business in approximately 6 months. Time committment from each individual member would be on part with a part-time job. Minimum 6 hrs a week.
