Hardware Research Engineer

Job DescriptionIn Q4 2023, Intel announced Altera will be reported as a separate business unit beginning on January 1, 2024, with ongoing support from Intel. This position is associated to that standalone business strategy and is expected to fully transition to a standalone company at some time in the future.The successful incumbent in this role will perform but not limited to:

Initiate the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects to fuel growth in computing, communication, memory, networking, intellectual property, and new business opportunities.

Apply scientific research principles and concepts to potential inventions and products in hardware engineering, developing the vision and value proposition, aligning strategy, and driving fast paced research and development to improve efficiency and meet timelines.

Utilize advanced knowledge of compute, memory, IO, and/or network subsystems and hardware/software codesign principles to drive requirements and specifications for both hardware and software at the IP, SoC, platform, and system levels. Conduct simulation, prototyping, and workload analysis to achieve performance/watt/dollar optimized system implementations.

Research technological trends, enables partnerships and collaboration among industry, academia, standards bodies, product, and other technical groups to address important technology and customer issues, and finds innovative solutions to difficult problems for midterm or long-term time frames.

Influence external research, disseminates results, and raises the profile of conducted research through scientific publications, patents, talks, and Intel internal or external outreach efforts.

Perform research to define boundaries and creates proof of concepts or prototypes new ideas including chips and competitive analysis versus industry trends.

Collaborate with customers to explore potential customer requirements in mid and long term, works with engineering design teams to determine product requirements and the feasibility of new technology adoption and integration. Recommends features and influences future Intel product roadmap.

QualificationsMinimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Requirements listed would be obtained through a combination of industry relevant job experience, internship experiences and or schoolwork/classes/research.Minimum Qualifications:BS / 6+ years or master’s degree in related field/4+ years or PHD/2+ years Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering with related field and experience.Minimum 3 years of experience (professional) in:

Micro-architecture definition and RTL development

Networking or I/O integration

Computer architecture, microprocessor or chip-set design methods

Digital circuit design

High-level description language modeling of hardware (e.g., System Verilog)

Place and route of digital designs to full-chip integration and tape out in a modern-day technology process

Hardware optimization for timing and area

Linux and Windows computer systems

Writing Linux shell scripts and general programming (e.g., Perl, shell, TCL and/or Python)

Hardware and software debugging

Experience with commercial EDA tools for digital/mixed-signal hardware design

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with multi-die heterogeneous integration

Experience with 2.5D / 3D die-to-die PHY and protocol interfaces
