Description:
Rusted Gate Farm is a non-profit farm seeking to add a team member who is passionate about supporting local agriculture. This position is part of our Small Ops team that operates a year-round market garden and a U-pick flower garden and manages a laying flock of hens and a few goats. The market garden is a high production vegetable garden that supplies our farm store with high quality produce. This individual must be self-motivated and demonstrate experience with the physical labor requirements of a small farm. This position will perform all duties in the market and flower gardens, small livestock husbandry, pasture management, and landscape maintenance. This is not an entry-level position. At least one full year of commercial vegetable production is required to apply. The right candidate will have horticultural and culinary knowledge that can be clearly communicated to our customers and the public in general.
Duties:
Applicant must be capable of physical labor in inclement weather, heavy lifting at times, and using garden tools and machinery ergonomically and efficiently. This position requires equipment operation including walk-behind tiller, tractor, mower, weed-eater, backpack blower, power tools, etc. Outdoor work is expected during all seasons including broad forking, planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, and irrigation installation and maintenance. The right individual must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner, while unsupervised at times. Some weekends and holidays are required.
Qualifications:
Experience with a wide variety of vegetable crops is required. Position entails repetitive physical tasks including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time. The individual is required to maintain their physical needs by dressing appropriately for the weather, properly hydrating, and practicing good ergonomics. Ability to drive a truck and trailer and effectively back a trailer is a bonus. The right candidate will have experience with and be efficient using garden tools such as hula and wire hoes, garden fork and spade, bow rakes, etc. Construction and mechanical skills are a plus.
Must have a valid driver’s license, favorable driving record and reliable transportation, and pass a background check. This is a salaried position that begins with a 60-day probationary period, after which the employee will be eligible for health insurance and PTO.
Hourly wage: $21
