Entry-Level Survey Field Crew Member

Vacancy expired!

Bayside Surveying LLC, is looking to add a new member to our small, yet successful land surveying field crew. This job would be the perfect fit for two types of people: teens or college students wanting to go into the engineering field, forestry, land surveying, drafting, or any other field that puts a heavy emphasis on mathematics, working outdoors, or wanting to utilize STEM skills, (but we'll gladly hire anyone that is a good fit for our company). Come one, come all!

Requirements:

-Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential and cannot be emphasized enough! (There’s a reason this is under Requirements. If we have a big job scheduled, we are relying on you for that day pretty much no matter what [unless prior notice is given]. So please, if you have any issues in this area, save us all some time…).

-Able to work independently w/ minimal supervision and able to work in a team environment.

-Strong communication skills and collaboration skills.

-Seek and accept increasing levels of responsibility.

-Able to carry 50+ lbs for extended periods of time in an array of environments, weather, and difficulty.

-Ability to walk long distances (sometimes 3, 4 or even 7 miles a day) usually at varying inclines and difficulty.

-Able and willing to work longer than 8 hrs some days.

Training: Yes, we’ll provide you w/ training! Within the first couple of weeks you will start learning how to:

-Operate equipment such as the total station, GPS surveying tools, data collectors, levels, etc.

-Take accurate, complete, and clear notes by recording survey measurements, descriptive data, drawings, and sketches.

-Make calculations and maintain records essential to the survey.

Eventually, if you advance with us enough, you could also learn how to:

-Draft maps.

-Maintaining client relations by but not limited to: Providing estimates and meeting w/ clients to go over future and current plans of action, exchanging email/phone/fax/text correspondences, etc.

-Operate work truck

-Run your own fieldwork team.

Responsibilities:

-Assist surveyor and survey-tech with day-to-day operations of performing fieldwork to complete surveys. This will be a variety of different activities.

-Perform manual labor such as clearing brush for lines ( yes, we'll even let you do it with a machete!), carrying stakes, rebar, equipment, and other heavy items as required to complete the survey. ( This is the main part of your job! You will need to be able to carry 50+lbs of equipment for extended hrs, sometimes, scratch that, most times over/through rough terrain [it can be forested, swampy, muddy, steep, brushy, or a mix of everything.] and in all kinds of weather [rain doesn’t scare us] ).

-Make sure the work truck is properly maintained and stocked.

-Maintain and inventory supplies and equipment.

-Any other entry-level tasks (sweeping shop, washing truck, etc.).

So I guess if you’ve made it this far then all my truth bombs haven’t deterred you…good, because this job can and is very rewarding. Each day brings something new to do and a new problem/puzzle to solve. A boring office job where you sit in a room all day and file stuff this is not. You will continually reach new heights (literally), see new places, meet new people, and experience a mix of different tasks and jobs.

The Details:

-Hours: This starts off as a 3-5 full day per week job w/ the potential for it becoming completely full time. Normal hours can include: 8am-5pm, 7am-6pm, 8am-4pm. Some days you might get off early (3 pm), some days you might not get in till 7-8 pm (rarely). Overtime is required some days but not on a regular basis (really only on days the job takes longer than expected). Weekends off and no long-distance travel (home every night).

-Pay: Hourly and BOE w/ the potential for a $1 raise after a 6-mo. review.

-Benefits: Christmas Bonus. We are also looking into possible matching 401ks.

If you’re dependable, hardworking, want to learn something new each day, and enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions then this might just be the job for you!

Immediate hire needed!
