ZooLights Traffic Operations Field Representative (9 – 11 positions open)
Status: Temporary/Seasonal Part-Time, 12 - 28 hours per week
Reports to: Program Coordinator, Field Operations Specialist

Position Details
Dates of Employment: ZooLights runs Nov 14th through January 4th.
Staff must be available for the majority of this period, and for training on November 11th.
Hours:
Variable (based on your availability), but typically 12-28 hours/week
Shifts begin at 3:30 pm, end time will vary but should not exceed 9:15 pm. 3-5 nights per week (per availability), days and hours may change depending on demand and ZooLights schedule. Scheduled shifts may be canceled as well, prior to shift, depending on traffic, weather, and demand. EWP will strive to communicate changes with as much advance notice as possible.
On-call shifts are available for those interested in picking up additional shifts, or if demand creates the need for additional staff.

About Explore Washington Park (EWP)
Explore Washington Park (EWP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people to the culture, diversity, and wonder of nature in Washington Park, one of Portland’s most treasured destinations. Our mission is to provide an accessible, inclusive, and seamless experience for all who visit.
We operate programs that include a free shuttle, parking and traffic management, visitor services, and park planning. We are guided by principles and prioritize environmental stewardship, equitable access, and fostering a vibrant park community.
Position Overview
ZooLights is an event held nightly at Oregon Zoo through the late fall/ early winter season and has acres of giant light displays utilizing millions of LED lights. The events are well attended by people from the Portland metro region and beyond. Our team operates primarily outside Oregon Zoo on Washington Park and TriMet property and off-site business lots for overflow parking. You will be working to ensure everyone is able to get to and from the event safely and efficiently by directing guests through the parking lots both onsite and off-site, as well as providing visitor service along the way. You will be a part of making the region’s quintessential holiday/ winter light experience memorable and safe.
Duties and Responsibilities
Traffic Operations
Complete parking lot operations as instructed by the supervisor.
Set up and take down traffic control devices/cones/signs at start and end of shift.
Guide traffic in high congestion areas; request assistance from Park Rangers or Parking Enforcement via radio when necessary.
Maintain a safe environment for Park guests as they navigate the parking lots and bus areas.
Prioritize personal and guest safety in all actions and decisions.
Visitor Service and Visitor Information
Provide excellent customer service to assist Park guests.
Effectively communicate with guests in a positive manner at all times.
Ensure all information given to guests is current and accurate.
Skills and Qualifications

Ability to handle a high-volume customer service environment
Willingness and ability to prioritize safety
Proven track record of working well with others, adapting to others’ work styles, and professional interactions with co-workers and vendors
Commitment to increasing equitable access to Washington Park
Proficiency in a second language preferred but not required
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, new challenges, and workplace transitions
Desire to assist park visitors and answer questions, including repetitive questions
Willingness and ability to engage with diverse individuals and groups
Ability to work outside in all-weather conditions
Strong verbal communications skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think on your feet
Ability to positively represent the venues in Washington Park
Ability to lift traffic and safety equipment up to 40 pounds in weight
Weekend availability preferred
