Assistant Director - Childcare

We are hiring an Assistant Director for our childcare center! We are an established childcare center with an experienced child care team that values a culture of community, family, play-based learning, and fun.

General Description:

Employees must be flexible between 6:30am and 6:00pm. Specific hours are negotiable, but will partly overlap with the Director and partly alone as the delegate of the Director for center operations. This center supports play-based learning, therefore staff is required to be willingly engaged and supportive of children at all times. Must enjoy working with children (infants through 12 years) and their families. Ability to interact professionally with staff and families, be reliable and punctual, work well as a team, serve as assistant to the center Director and liaison to the classroom teaching staff. Ability to maintain clean work and teaching areas, with a high level of self-motivation to anticipate the needs of children, staff, and classroom function.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director supports the school in overseeing all aspects of daily operations including working closely with the Director, scheduling staff, interacting with families and teachers, classroom management, performance management, licensing requirements, and other items. Duties may include but are not limited to:

Maintain exceptional relationships with enrolled families through excellent verbal and written “follow-through” communication.

Ensure that classrooms are well cared for and presentable for teaching from a health and safety perspective.

Upholding health and safety standards set forth by DCYF Child Care Licensing and Leadership Team, including tracking credentials of staff.

Help solve daily staff shortages and be willing to “fill the shoes” of a teacher in a classroom if all other delegating options have been maximized.

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet DCYF requirements as outlined in WAC 110-300-0100 for Licensed Childcare Director/Assistant Director.

Must be registered in WA MERIT Workforce Registry (w. STARS ID number)

Minimum of an associate degree in early childhood education or a related education field

Two years’ experience as a teacher in a licensed childcare facility

Knowledge of child development, as evidenced by professional references, education, experience, and/or On the Job performance.

Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly.

The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Must be at least 21 years old.

Ability to function in a supervisory role with regard to center teachers.

Available and on site for 8+ hours between 6:30am and 6:00pm. Specific hours to be negotiated.

Ability to function alone as a supervisor when the Director is offsite or gone for the day.
