General Statement of Duties:

The Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team and supports and helps the Lead Teacher carry out the program designed by the Operations Director and Classroom Lead Teacher. The Teacher is in charge of all aspects of the program in the Lead Teacher’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and two years’ full-time experience with the specific age group preferred. A comparable combination of experience and education acceptable based upon documented experience. Must be at least 18 years of age and must meet the minimum Oregon CCD licensing requirements. Must be Teacher Qualified and step 6 in the Oregon State Registry. Must acquire 24 approved training hours a year. Must be registered in the Central Background Registry.

Must be fit for duty physically and mentally. Using proper lifting techniques must be able to lift and hold children up to 40 pounds in both standing and sitting positions. Willing and able to stoop, crawl, kneel and bend in order to play with children, to speak to children at the child’s eye level, pick up toys and equipment from the floor, and be able to evacuate children in case of an emergency.

Shows evidence of enthusiasm, flexibility, creativity, energy, concern for affect, ability to cooperate, to set limits and follow through on them, to relate to children and project a positive self-image. Willing to work within a team structure, be supportive, joyful and have fun!

Supervision Received:

Is assigned by the Program Director to work under the Lead Teacher in the classroom. Receives direct supervision from the Classroom Lead Teacher. The Classroom Lead Teacher and the Program Director will evaluate effectiveness of work.

Responsibilities:

To support and maintain a safe and healthy environment

1. Support Lead Teacher in maintaining an environment for children, which is

clean, safe, stimulating and appropriate for each child’s development.

2. Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities with staff.

3. Support designing an appropriate room arrangement to support the goals of

the classroom.

4. Support healthy eating practices.

5. Care for equipment and materials and is alert to good housekeeping.

6. Is aware of, and diligent in following all health and safety policies and

regulations.

7. Assures up-to-date records by recording information on all pertinent forms.

To support the advancement of motor and intellectual competence

1. Support, emerging literacy and language development in response to

each individual child’s interest through whole language experience.

2. Support a curriculum that fosters the construction of mathematical

knowledge through hands-on activities.

3. Support the design and implementation of activities that foster the development of physical knowledge.

4. Support the Lead Teacher in providing an integrated curriculum that meets

the needs of individual children.

5. Support the use of equipment and material for play that promotes children’s fine and gross motor development.

To establish positive and productive relationships with families

1. View each parent-teacher relationship as a partnership, focusing on each child’s

individual strengths and abilities.

2. Support planning and implement hands-on activities that develop self-

esteem.

3. Use and promote positive guidance techniques and a variety of creative

expressive activities approved by the Lead Teacher.

4. Establishes and maintains relationship with parents and families of children

in the group, so that parents feel comfortable discussing issues and

concerns. Communicate all information given by a parent to the Lead

Teacher

6. Parent concerns should be directed and handled by the Lead Teacher unless

delegated to you.

Essential Required Job Functions and Tasks:

1. Takes charge of the entire classroom in Lead Teacher’s absence, including the supervision of aides and substitutes in the room. Opens or closes the classroom each day, in cooperation with Teacher, to ensure program continuity.

2. Maintains continuing positive dialogue with all staff regarding overall functioning of the room, and any other pertinent issues within the program.

3. Contributes suitable ideas and suggestions to planning sessions for the children’s program in a positive and constructive manner. Helps produce and set up needed materials and supplies to help carry out curriculum plans.

4. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

5. Support Lead Teacher in observing and documenting of individual progress through anecdotal notes, developmental checklist, portfolio assessments and other designated screenings.

6. Have the ability to communicate ideas, concerns and feelings regarding the program and procedures to the appropriate person in a constructive manner.

7. Must be open to feedback and supervision in a positive manner.

Required Work Schedule: Must be available for any shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pay: $22.06/hour; Paid time off; paid holidays; full medical and dental after review period; up to a 6% match in a 401K
