Position Description:
The Cottonwood School is seeking an energetic and creative 4th/5th grade teacher to join its faculty as a long term substitue effective immediately. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys taking their students into the field (both natural and urban locations) with a desire to collaborate on curriculum design with staff and community partners. The 4th/5th grade teacher also guides children to practice social-emotional skills such as conflict resolution and self-management. The 4th/5th grade class at The Cottonwood School focuses on 3 place-based curricular units each year. Year One, students study watersheds, local and global biomes, and the ocean. Year Two, students learn about the nine federally-recognized tribes of Oregon, state history, and Celilo Falls. Cottonwood provides strong in house support and professional development around applying a place-based lens to teaching the curriculum.
