Entry Level Fire Sprinkler Designer

Wyatt Fire Protection is a small subcontractor specializing in water-based fire sprinkler systems design, installation, and maintenance. Our office is near downtown Tigard.

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented individual to fill an entry level design position in our engineering department. This is an internship for an assistant role, so many skills can be taught to the right individual who is motivated! The internship will have a 3-month duration that can be extended or made permanent if it’s a good fit. The ideal candidate would be competent in or capable of learning mathematics (basic algebra, geometry, etc.), pays close attention to detail, is teachable, gets along well in an office setting, and have some experience drafting. Drafting and experience with AutoCAD and AutoSPRINK is preferred, but not required. If you have professional experience in a related field, you are also welcome to apply.

After some initial training, you can expect to be designing small projects (sprinkler layout), doing plan preparation, and obtaining permits. As you learn, you will be given more responsibility and larger engineering projects. If you bring some drafting and/or engineering experience, you can expect to work on more complex projects sooner.

Daily tasks include:

Drafting fire sprinkler drawings for construction and permit submittal (large majority of tasks)

Printing and compiling plans and submittal documents, including permit forms

Delivery of submittal packages to local building departments

Assisting senior engineers with their designs, permit submittal, and other clerical tasks, as needed

Site surveys

Clear, effective communication between office staff, customers, building departments, fire marshals, and field crews

Candidate must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving history and reliable transportation. The work schedule for this position is flexible, 30 hours/week minimum at first. Permanent positions will be full-time at 40 hours/week.

Qualifications:

- Ability to problem solve and think critically

- Punctuality

- Solid work ethic

- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, your own time, and meet deadlines

- Ability to stay organized with little direction or intervention, but also the ability to take direction and learn as you go

- Extreme attention to detail and focus on accuracy

- Great interpersonal and communication skills

- Team-mentality – Do what it takes to get the job done, with no task being beneath you. This is the way we work here and want someone who shares this quality.

- Desire to do what is right

Preferred:

- Drafting and/or previous engineering experience or schooling

- Familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoSPRINK

Please submit a cover letter and resume via email (no calls)
