Spectrum provides services at many of Maine’s hospitals throughout the state and in eastern New Hampshire. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider III (APP III) to join our dynamic team at Spectrum Healthcare Partners to work with one of our orthopaedic hand surgeons. The APP III will provide comprehensive direct patient care both in the clinic and the operating room (OR), contributing to the high-quality care of our patients. This role requires a professional who excels in managing a diverse patient panel, supports surgical procedures, and participates in on-call duties. This is a 4-day-a-week position, located in beautiful Portland, Maine! We offer a comprehensive benefits package, a collaborative, and patient-focused work environment.Clinic Duties:

Manage a designated panel of patients, providing care for acute and chronic conditions.

Conduct evaluations and assessments for new and existing patients, including routine follow-up care.

Perform pre-operative histories and physicals (H/P) and provide post-operative care.

Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.

Perform therapeutic procedures by administering injections and managing wounds. Administer medications and injections within the scope of practice.

Interview, educate and advise patients and family regarding treatment, health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet the patient’s and family’s needs.

Collaborate with the attending surgeon for patient management and treatment planning.

Provide patient education and support to enhance health outcomes.

Consistently performs accurate and timely documentation in the appropriate electronic health record.

Occasionally cover shifts at the Ortho Access walk-in clinic as needed.

Operating Room Duties:

Serve as the first assist in the OR, supporting the attending surgeon and other surgical team members.

Prepare patients for surgery, ensuring all pre-operative protocols are followed.

Monitor patient status and respond to intraoperative changes.

Assist in post-operative care and recovery, addressing any immediate concerns.

On-Call Duties:

Participate in on-call rotation, including evening and weekend phone calls and rounding.

Provide timely and effective responses to patient care issues during on-call periods.

Qualifications

Successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program

Current license issued by the State of Maine, or eligible for licensure

Previous orthopaedic experience desired

Physician Assistant certification by NCCPA or Nurse Practitioner with RN First Assist Maine Licensure required

DEA registration required

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required

Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of practice

High level of organizational skills, effective time management and delegation strategies

Ability to make and communicate well-reasoned decisions, both independently and as part of a team

Ability to see and articulate both the larger picture and operational steps needed to achieve practice-related goals and objectives

Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families and other healthcare providers

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Ability to interact with technical and non-technical personnel, particularly physicians

Proficient computer skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Requires regular clinical on-site availability

Travel to off-site locations as required

Requires Saturday rotation, off hours, and participation in on-call pool

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue

Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone and voice mail system, personal computer, e-mail system, cell phone, pager, and photocopier

Operation of therapeutic and diagnostic medical equipment, administering therapeutic modalities

May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time

Frequent walking

Occasional bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling

Occasional after-hours meeting participation

Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
