Evening Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for performing general custodial care of the building and grounds as directed by his/her supervisor. The Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning of the building and grounds assigned by the Operations Supervisor. Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Custodian sweeps, dusts, cleans walls, and mops the classrooms, hallways, offices and workrooms, rest rooms, and communal areas of the assigned school building.

Essential Responsibilities and Activities:

1. Cleans and dusts offices and classrooms.

2. Sweeps, mops and waxes floors, washes windows, cleans sumps, vacuums, cleans and spot cleans carpets.

3. Empties wastebaskets and garbage cans.

4. Cleans restrooms, classrooms, and all types of rooms.

5. Changes lights, restocks dispensers, and maintains functionality of spaces.

6. Performs minor maintenance.

7. Performs general custodial duties.

8. Sets up facilities for after school activities.

9. Aids staff in moving heavy, bulky items.

10. On call after hours for emergency assistance to the building if needed.

11. May be required to lock and secure buildings.

12. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out written or oral directions; ask questions and seek the direction or assistance of Operations Supervisor in English.

2. Basic reading and writing skills in English are required.

3. Ability to use good judgment and communicate successfully with students, teachers, staff and the general public during and after school hours.

4. Ability to work successfully with other employees and performance consistent with a customer service model.

5. Ability to learn and operate heating and ventilation systems and simple maintenance.

6. Ability to operate minor mechanical equipment such as waxers, polishers, scrubbers, edgers,

wet/dry vacuums etc.

7. Working knowledge of schools cleaning materials, methods, equipment and principles of sanitation.

8. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in general plant surveillance for building protection and occupant safety.

9. Proficient with basic computer skills. Ability to use the CMMS system of the plant.

10. Have the physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, crawl on hands and knees, reach overhead continuously or frequently throughout the duration of a work shift.

11. Have the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, lift 25 lbs overhead, move custodial carts and operate minor equipment up to 40lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Fluency in French language

2. Experience working in a school environment

The schedule for this position will be 3pm-11pm, M-F.

Hourly Rate: $19.75/hr
