Job Summary The Data Governance Specialist plays an integral role in ensuring that an organization’s data assets are managed and utilized effectively, while also adhering to regulatory compliance and business requirements. This position involves the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures, aiming to improve data quality and accessibility across the organization. By serving as a liaison between data stakeholders and technical teams, the specialist facilitates the alignment of data initiatives with strategic business goals. Their efforts support informed decision-making processes, enhance operational efficiency, and mitigate risks associated with data management. Through their expertise, the Data Governance Specialist ensures that data as a resource is accurately cataloged, securely stored, and appropriately used, fostering an environment where data-driven insights can thrive. Essential Responsibilities

Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of organizational data.

Coordinate with data stewards and other stakeholders to establish and enforce data quality standards, including accuracy, completeness, and reliability.

Facilitate the enhancements and maintenance of a data catalog that documents data sources, data lineage, and metadata to enhance data accessibility and understanding.

Oversee data compliance activities, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements related to data privacy and protection, such as FIDO Web external dashboards and other external shared data assets.

Lead data governance meetings and committees including the Data Steward Council, fostering collaboration among business units to align data governance initiatives with organizational objectives.

Design and implement data classification schemes to categorize data based on sensitivity and importance, guiding appropriate data handling and security measures.

Monitor and report on the performance of data governance initiatives, using metrics and KPIs to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

Advocate for the strategic use of data by promoting data literacy and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Experience and/or Education

Required

Minimum 3 years’ experience in data governance, data management or related roles

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management or related field

AND minimum 2 years’ experience in data governance, data management or related roles

Preferred

Experience with Data.world, Collibra, Alation, Egnyte or similar

Experience with Visio

Experience with SQL as an Analyst

Tableau experience

Experience in the healthcare or health insurance industry

Experience with Healthcare Payers, Claims, Care Delivery etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledge

Advanced understanding of data governance principles

Advanced knowledge of metadata management

Advanced knowledge in developing data policies and procedures

Knowledge of data privacy and compliance laws, regulations and other relevant standards

Knowledge of metadata management practices to ensure data is properly cataloged and accessible

Knowledge of data management tools and technologies for data management

Knowledge of data analysis

Knowledge of Managed Care helpful

Knowledge of Medicaid and/or Medicare programs helpful

Skills and Abilities

Effective ability to develop and support implementation of policies, procedures and standards for data policies such as data quality and metadata management

Ability to develop and execute metadata management strategies

Proficiency in data management systems and data analysis tools

Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant technology and best practices in the data governance field

Effective presentation and facilitation skills in both small and larger group settings, both in-person and virtually

Excellent customer service skills

Excellent spoken and written communication skills

Ability to effectively collaborate with coworkers, staff, and leaders across all departments

Ability to work independently

Ability to employ a high degree of initiative and motivation

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
