We are looking for a Cook to join our team and prepare delicious meals for our customers.

A Cook's responsibilities include studying recipes and preparing high-quality dishes. You should be able to delegate tasks to kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner. You should be familiar with sanitation regulations. If you have experience with advanced cooking techniques and non-traditional ingredients, we’d like to meet you.

Canby Grove is a beautiful camp and retreat center situated on 54 acres of land along the scenic Molalla River in Canby, Oregon. Our facilities operate year-round and are staffed by full and part-time professionals who help ensure that our guests have an amazing experience.

Canby Grove’s Food Service Department is responsible for the planning, preparation and presentation of all meals served to guests of the Canby Grove Camp and Retreat Center.

■ Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Efficiently prepare and cook nutritious meals for groups ranging from 25 to 400 participants according to designated schedules and food preparation timelines.

- Will follow sustainable food practices, which include, food storage and food disposal.

- Under the direction of management, work as a team with other kitchen staff to maintain inventory control, and order food.

- Work as a team with kitchen management to plan menus for guest groups which may incorporate provided information about allergens and food preferences.

- Delegate task to kitchen staff.

- Wash and clean all surfaces used in the preparation and serving of meals.

- Regularly clean surfaces and equipment in the kitchen, dish room, coolers and pantries.

- Maintain Oregon Health Code and American Camp Association standards in handling, cooking and storing of food.

- Fulfill assigned duties in an emergency situation.

This position is non-exempt, paid hourly

This position is part-time, scheduled for up to 40 hrs./wk.

This position is breakfast and lunch saturdays and sundays every weekend.

This position will shift on June 1st to include weekdays also

■ Secondary Functions:

- Assist in the expediting and serving of food as needed.

- Other duties as assigned.

■ Working Conditions:

- Regular schedule includes morning/afternoon shifts.

- Shift days and hours will vary depending on programming needs and guest group schedules.

- Requires regular and punctual attendance.

- Must be able to work independently and manage time with minimal guidance.

- Must have visual, perceptual, cognitive and judgment ability to: recognize and respond verbally to health and safety concerns and to deal appropriately with any improper behavior.

■ Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Requirements:

- Ability to follow recipes for menus and improvise when necessary.

- Ability to create meals from scratch.

- Demonstrated knowledge of kitchen tools, equipment and safety.

- Strong customer service skills.

- Professional communication skills, both written and oral.

- Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

- Excellent coordination and time management skills.

- Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.

■ Education & Work Experience:

Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Minimum 1-2 years of cooking for camps, schools, or other large group settings.

Preferences:

- Degree/diploma/certificate from a culinary school or equivalent of work or experience

- Bilingual - Spanish/English.

- Experience working with volunteers.

■ Additional Requirements/Preferences; Including Licenses and Certifications:

Requirements:

Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate

Must be at least 18 years old to operate, repair or clean power-driven food slicers, grinders, choppers and mixers.

Pre-employment checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, and American Camp Association (ACA) background checks (& on annual basis).

Preferences:

- Current CPR and first aid certification
