Origami Catering is a Portland-based company that provides sushi and Asian-inspired foods to grocers, schools, hospitals. We are looking for a Prep/Line Cook to join us at our USDA-certified central kitchen! Your role will be to cook and package Asian-inspired hot foods - such as noodles, curry, and musubi. In addition, this person will prep sushi ingredients including seafood, vegetables, sauces, sushi rice, etc. We have a friendly, small company atmosphere with opportunities for growth. Come join us! Position: Line/Prep Cook
Status: Part-time 3-4 days; 20-30 hrs/week (with opportunity for full-time)
Shift: 7:30am-3:30pm
Payrate: $18-20 per hour
Job duties:
Cook and package Asian-inspired foods (bulk & retail packs)
Prep vegetables, seafood, sauces, rice, and other ingredients
Keep the kitchen clean (sweep/mop floors, wipe down tables, etc)
Shift inventory and help keep the kitchen organized
Support kitchen management on ad hoc projects as needed
Adhere to company, state, and local food safety regulations
Qualifications:
1+ year experience in a commercial/restaurant kitchen
1 year experience working with hot foods
Experience operating kitchen equipment (stove top, convection oven, blast chiller)
Bonus if you have worked in an USDA-certified facility
Understanding of measurements (oz, lbs, TBSP, 1-cup, etc) is necessary
Basic knife skills are required
Must be dependable, punctual, and work with a sense of urgency
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed
Must be able to stand for the full shift and lift 50 lbs occasionally
Be friendly, positive, and have a team mindset
Attire:
Long pants (no shorts or skirts)
Non-slip shoes must be worn in the kitchen (no open toed shoes)
No jewelry allowed while working in the kitchen
Kitchen coats and hairnets are mandatory. People with facial hair must wear a beard net or face mask.
