The Westgate Bourbon Bar and Taphouse is looking for a Wine Steward/Sommelier to develop and guide it's bottled wine program for both its bottle shop and restaurant. Deep knowledge of old and new world wines is an absolute requisite to help build this program to become one of the top notch bottle shops in Portland. We need your help to take our little shop to the next level.
This is an active retail position with high focus on understanding customer wants and needs, and leading them to find the special product they are looking for.
You must meet weekly with local wine reps to taste, explore, and find only the best wines that will appeal to our market. You directly will choose what inventory to carry to create one of the most well curated wine lists in the area. We want to be the best kept secret in Oregon.
Excellent customer service and communication skills are an absolute requirement.
You must be positive. Have vision. Be proactive. Articulate. And have a passion for all things wine.
There are two sides to this shop, a beer and a wine side. While you will be in charge of the wine side, a knowledge and enjoyment of beer from all over the world is also needed. This can be acquired over time.
This position is mostly nights with some days involved for rep tastings.
