Starting salary is $62,668 - $76,246 (depending upon qualifications),

Hillsboro Parks & Recreation is looking for a unique individual who understands how to build community through participation in community, cultural, and recreational programs. The Community Enrichment Recreation Supervisor will lead the effort to engage the public through recreation, social connection, and artistic and cultural expression. We are looking for a committed professional who is equally comfortable booking arts, special events, community educational opportunities, and in managing recreational sporting activities (basketball, volleyball, futsol, pickleball, and table tennis). The Hidden Creek Community Center at 53rd Avenue Park (HC53) is currently under construction and will open in Fall of 2020. This highly anticipated facility will be an inclusive space providing access to programs that serve the wellness, cultural, social, and enrichment needs for Hillsboro in a safe and welcoming environment for all.

The selected Community Enrichment Recreation Supervisor for HC53 will be a key employee in the organization. This position will be responsible for developing cultural, arts, recreational sports, and enrichment activities in the facilities community, education rooms, open spaces, and gymnasium.

This position is vitally important in establishing and developing innovative programs in identified areas of need for the Hillsboro community. This position will also be responsible for identifying and attracting activities that address the enrichment needs for all members of the community and reflect the historic diversity of the region.

Our ideal candidate has an excellent background in developing and supervising community, recreational, and cultural activities and events and is well organized and comfortable with multi-tasking responsibilities.

Current/Upcoming Projects:

The initial duties will involve reviewing, planning and developing our inclusive and adaptive recreation activities and will include:

Assisting with the recruitment and hiring of diverse full, and part-time staff

Assisting with the development of facility policies and procedures

Creating a facility programming plan (classes, workshops, concerts, lectures etc.) for all ages and abilities

Assisting with the creation of a budget and cost recovery plan (expenses and revenues) and the development and implementation of a marketing plan

Assisting with the purchase of facility supplies, and materials

Developing membership pre-sales plan and implementation

Assisting with planning the grand opening and other launch events

General Statement of Duties

The principal function of an employee in this class is to oversee recreation activities and perform specialized programming in support of an assigned program or area. Responsibilities may include supervising full and part-time, seasonal and volunteer staff; coordinating program resources and staffing; monitoring program budgets, including grants; conducting needs analysis to identify programming opportunities; developing program marketing materials; resolving complex customer service issues; preparing reports; and monitoring the utilization of program resources. Incumbents are responsible for hiring, discipline and termination procedures for full, part-time and seasonal staff.

Acceptable Experience and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Education or Public Administration or a closely related field and 3 years of recreation and/or programming experience in assigned area of responsibility including 2 years of supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing/Certifications

Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification

Bilingualism in English and Spanish preferred but not required
