Certified Medical Assistant for School Based Health Clinic

Outside In is seeking a full time Certified Medical Assistant to work with our School Based Health Clinic team at Milwaukie High School, working primarily with children and adolescents.

The Certified Medical Assistant (MA II) plays a key role in supporting the clinic and ensuring high quality patient care. This position is one of the central members of a small, dedicated team of care professionals providing care to care to students at Milwaukie High School.

Outside In’s SBHC offers an integrated model of health care, meaning that students can access primary care, behavioral health care, and dental care all in the same place. SBHCs reduce barriers that can keep students from seeking the health care they need.

This is a full-time, union represented, hourly position with a starting range of 19.53 - $22.84, based on experience and skills. This position reports to the School Based Health Center Manager and is a member of the School Based Health Center Team. This role may be scheduled and expected to report to work at Outside In’s downtown Portland clinic or various outreach sites during school closure days.

 You understand the need for attention to detail and refined processes to support the smooth functioning of a small clinic team.

 You have had or really want experience working in a school-based health clinic serving underserved communities.

 You are particularly interested in and able to engage with children and adolescents and might even have had experience working with this demographic.

 You are a fast learner and willing to take ownership of your potential and impact working with young patients.

 You are passionate about anti-racist practice, engaging in equity and anti-racist discussions within the team and the agency to ensure the equitable impact of the mission within our communities and with our stakeholders.

What you will do:

 Obtain and document patient history, vital signs, and other established screening procedures

 Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed by the on-site medical provider

 Prepare and administer medications, injections, and immunizations as ordered by the provider

 Maintain the on-site lab and coordinate with Lab Coordinator to maintain equipment

 Treat all patients with compassion and empathy

 Perform basic administrative medical assisting functions

 Act as the SuperUser for the Vaccines For Children program and maintains ALERTIIS records

 Communicate inventory and equipment needs to the SBHC Manager

 Schedule and coordinate patient appointments as well as monitor provider schedules

 Create and maintain the MA binder, document workflows, and manage SBHC Medical Assistant OneNote

Skills

 Excellent communication skills

 Knowledge of infection control principles and practices

 Knowledge of HIPAA laws and patient rights

 Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of situations

 Able to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and sexual preference backgrounds

 Able to work both independently and as a member of a primary care team

Required Qualifications

 Must have either an AAMA or CCMA certification

 Must have a valid Healthcare Provider CPR card

Preferred Qualifications

 Prior experience working as an MA in a clinic setting with pediatric and adolescent patients is preferred

 Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Working Conditions

 This job is located in a standard medical office environment, embedded in a school. Ability to travel may be needed to support other agency clinics and teams.
