Friends of the Children – Portland is seeking a detail-oriented, people-focused professional to support our Colleagues and keep FriendsPDX an exceptional place to work. You’ll guide colleagues through recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, engagement, and labor relations—helping everyone do their best work while modeling the values that drive our mission.

Bring your strengths in:

Administering people operations: coordinating onboarding, payroll, benefits, and leave, and streamlining processes to make FriendsPDX an easy place to work

Building relationships and supporting Colleagues with care

Communicating clearly in writing and in person

Coordinating recurring processes (background checks, benefits enrollment, performance cycles)

Using HRIS, payroll systems, and collaboration tools to solve problems

Supporting routine employee and labor relations activities

Role details

Full-time, Salaried Non-Exempt

Reports to: Chief People & Culture Officer

Hybrid: Portland-based, with expanded on-site presence expected mid-2026

Salary Range: $52,500–$55,500 depending on experience

Preferred qualifications

Skills and competencies typically gained through 2–3 years of People & Culture, HR coordination, or people operations work—such as managing HRIS systems, administering payroll and benefits, coordinating recruiting and onboarding, and ensuring compliance

Foundational knowledge of HR principles, employment practices, and compliance typically gained through an associate’s degree with HR coursework or professional certification (aPHR, SHRM-CP, PHR)

Knowledge of core employment and labor laws and compliance best practices

Ability to build and maintain positive, trusting working relationships with Colleagues and partners
