Job Title: Part-Time Farm Hand

Position: Part-Time 16-20 hours a week
About Us:
We are a small, family-run farm nestled in the serene landscapes of Mt. Hood, Oregon. Our property is home to a variety of animals, including our beloved Highland cows, chickens, ducks, sheep, dogs, and cats. Alongside our farming operations, we also host guests in our cozy Airbnbs, offering the unique experience of farm life. We are looking to add a dedicated, responsible, and reliable part-time farm hand to our team to help care for our animals, maintain the property, and assist with our guest stays.
Position Overview:
As a Part-Time Farm Hand, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that the animals are well cared for and the property is well-maintained. You will work closely with the team and assist with a variety of tasks, including animal husbandry, groundskeeping, and guest services. While prior farm or animal experience is preferred, we are happy to train the right individual who is passionate about animals, the outdoors, and farm life.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
Feed and water the animals (Highland cows, chickens, ducks, sheep, and more) on a daily basis.
Ensure the well-being of the animals by checking for signs of illness or distress and reporting any concerns.
Clean and maintain stalls and barn areas.
Assist with animal husbandry duties, such as calving and lambing, as needed.
Ensure the safety and comfort of the animals.
Property Maintenance:
Maintain the grounds around the Airbnbs and farm, including weeding, gardening, and other light landscaping.
Assist with general upkeep of fences, barns, and farm equipment.
Assist with ongoing improvement projects around the property.
Guest Services:
Assist guests during their stay, ensuring a welcoming, friendly, and informative experience.
Conduct farm tours, sharing knowledge about the animals, farm life, and our operations.
Provide any necessary information or help to ensure guest comfort and enjoyment.
Farm Equipment:
Operate tractors, mowers, and other farm equipment safely and efficiently.
Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of farm tools and machinery.
Qualifications:
Preferred:
Previous experience with farm animals, particularly in animal husbandry (calving, lambing, etc.) is highly desirable.
Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment (tractors, mowers, etc.)
Experience with general farm maintenance and groundskeeping tasks.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with guests.
Required:
A genuine interest in animals and farm life.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team.
Physical ability to handle farm work, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Flexibility with schedule to meet the changing needs of the farm.
