Mosaic Ecology is looking for an experienced and self-driven individual to assist the Shop Manager within a growing habitat restoration company. Applicants should have applicable experience working in and organizing a shop environment as well as be willing and able to operate machinery.
Job Responsibilities: Shop Technician
This position has a broad range of responsibilities related to maintaining and organizing a shop space, maintaining vehicles, tools, and equipment, conducting supply runs, and mobilizing vehicles, trailers, and equipment to job sites. This position requires excellent communication skills and regular collaboration with the Shop Manager. Daily communication with field staff who are working at remote locations will be regularly required. This position is based out of our Cornelius, OR location.
The position regularly works in the shop, travels between sites for supply purchases or equipment mobilization, and conducts office tasks related to effectively logging work, communicating with crew members, and purchasing supplies. Much of the work will be done independently and requires someone that is very self-motivated and can self-manage. This position requires experience with or an ability to quickly learn two-cycle equipment maintenance, spray equipment maintenance, common landscape equipment maintenance, inventory organization and maintenance, and time management skills.
Specific job duties include:
Maintaining existing standards of shop work and implementing improvements as needed.
Communicating regularly and effectively with other shop staff and management at the company.
Able to communicate needs in the shop quickly so other members of staff can address issues effectively.
Tracking inventory needs in work trucks, field tool boxes, personal protective equipment, spray parts, two-cycle parts and hand tool parts.
Able to sharpen tools and chains efficiently and effectively
Managing inventories of chemicals, personal protective equipment, two-cycle equipment, hand tools, equipment, water craft, and trucks.
Managing the purchasing of supplies and tracking a budget.
Ability to execute basic carpentry projects.
Able or willing to learn how to operate heavy machinery such as tractors or skid steers.
Able to organize errand runs to maximize time management when dropping off equipment for repair, picking up supplies, refilling gas, and running general errands for the shop and company.
Regular cleaning and maintaining of work vehicles
Skills Requirements:
Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and organize the work day efficiently;
Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
Ability to schedule work and approve schedule with at least four days notice;
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and solve malfunctions while knowing when to ask for instruction;
Ability to efficiently utilize shop time and work in the field when needed;
Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations related to workplace safety;
Self-driven and not needing someone to carefully watch their work
Understanding of safety requirements for applicable agencies and our insurance providers;
Clean driving record;
Experience driving trailers
Experience using google applications.
Experience operating or fixing heavy machinery including tractors is preferred.
Proficiency with speaking, reading, and writing in English.
Schedule and Benefits:
Work week: 40 hours per week (Scheduling to be determined based on work needs)
This is a year round position
Wage: $25-27.00/hour DOE
Simple IRA upon enrollment
Paid Time Off: 120 hours per calendar year
Position Breakdown:
30% Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining shop space, facilities and grounds
10% Computer work (communicating with Mosaic staff, updating spreadsheets in Google Drive, etc)
10% Supply inventory and ordering
30% Maintaining and fixing equipment
20% Mobilizing and operating heavy machinery
