Contract or At-Home Production Sewing Position

Join Portland's own North St. Bags as a contract at-home production stitcher.

Are you a skilled sewing machine operator or stitcher with your own sewing studio setup and a precise attention to detail? Our small team needs some extra help this fall / winter and we’re looking for experienced sewing professionals to take on piece work.

This is a contract (pay per piece), off-site position only. You will be building bags and components using our materials and designs that require consistency and a keen eye for detail.

The initial project is sewing a large qty of Tote bags (see photos). Batches will be roughly 25-35 hours of work, and we expect 4-5 batches over the course of the project. We’re looking for someone who can complete most/all of this project in Nov and Dec. Future projects may be available if you are a good fit!

Tools required:

You will need a single needle (dog feed) mid or heavy-duty industrial machine such as a Brother LS2 Juki DDL or similar. The machine must be able to sew through several layers of thick Nylon (1000d Cordura) and thinner 200d packcloth. T70 Thread.

The initial Tote project will not require any binding, bar-tacking or walking-foot steps - BUT - if you have any of these machines in your shop, this will open up more opportunities down the road.

What will be provided for this project:

All cut panels

All pre-cut trims and pre-assembled zippers

Thread, along with a handful of pre-wound bobbins in black (you may be asked to wind your own bobbins in other colors)

Instructions and QA specs for each component

A sew-by sample

A clear work order for each batch with piece rate, qtys and a rough estimate of time

Our piece rates are calculated based on our own time data collected for each step, with a healthy markup for overhead expenses.

What we’re looking for:

Able to read and follow work orders, and communicate with our team by phone, text and in writing in English

Great attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions

Reliable and punctual

2+ years of experience with industrial or production sewing

Must be able to travel to our N. Portland location for pickup and drop-offs. We can also travel up to 15 miles from our shop to share this burden.

Interested? Send us a resume and a summary of your production sewing experience - we’d love to hear from you!
