Title: Machinist FTE Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly Reports To: Production Manager

Primary Purpose of Position:

Optimizes utilization of machines, equipment, and personnel to highest efficiency. Program, setup tooling and operation of CNC milling machines. Supports production machining and finishing needs.

Essential Functions:

Programs CNC milling machines.

Performs tooling machining.

Provides manufacturing support and machines production parts.

Coordinates workload to meet production requirements.

Provides machine/process design and improvements to increase productivity and decrease scrap/re-work.

Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

Visualizes parts/equipment from sketches or oral direction.

Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities of new equipment.

Operates manual machines, lathes, mill, grinding equipment, water jet equipment.

Trains others in machining environment

Maintains machine tools and capital equipment.

Assists with repair of capital equipment.

Manages job stress and interacts effectively with others in the workplace.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of quality systems and QC methods; LEAN Manufacturing preferred

Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions of the machinist trade

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to follow established policies and procedures, work independently & in team environment.

Ability to maintain a professional working relationship.

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English language.

Ability to read and understand technical data, blueprints, engineering sketches, etc.

Ability to perform gas and electric welding.

Preferred Education/Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree

Vocational or on-the-job training in machine operations & CNC programming

Any combination of the experience, education, training, and requirements listed herein which provide an equivalent background to perform the work of this position may be considered by management.

Reporting:

Direct report to Production Manager

Works independently and as part of a team.

May provide lead direction to the work of subordinates.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily indoors in a manufacturing facility and includes outdoor activities. Potential hazards exist in working with energized machinery and equipment.

This position includes the ability to perform those activities to complete the essential functions of the job, either with or without reasonable accommodation. The duties include the ability to operate various machines using hands and/or feet. The position requires continuous and/or frequent talking, repetitive motions of hand/wrists, hearing, and handling. Mental activities performed by the employee in this position include decision making, interpersonal skills, teamwork, creativity, customer service, use of discretion, problem analysis, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Physical activities may include standing for long periods of time on concrete floors, walking, stooping, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, bending, crawling, reaching, grasping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions of hands and wrists, sitting, hearing, and lifting/pushing/pulling or carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
