We ae seeking a shop helper that would like to learn from an experienced group of fabricators. A metal fabrication shop helper assists skilled workers with various tasks like lifting materials, operating basic machinery, and keeping the shop clean. Key duties include loading and unloading machines, preparing materials for fabrication or welding, and assisting with layout and assembly by holding parts or marking reference points. This entry-level position requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to follow instructions.
Responsibilities
Material handling: Lifting, moving, and transporting raw materials, workpieces, and finished products by hand or using tools like hand trucks and cranes.
Machine operation: Loading and unloading items from machines, and potentially operating basic machinery like drill presses, punch presses, or shears after training.
Workshop preparation: Cleaning and preparing metal surfaces for welding, and preparing equipment and materials for use.
Assisting skilled trades: Holding parts for welders, assisting in the layout process, and performing other duties to help skilled fabricators and welders complete their work.
Shop maintenance: Cleaning and organizing the shop, picking up scrap material, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment and work areas to promote safety.
Qualifications and skills
Physical ability: Must be able to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Basic skills: Ability to use hand tools and power tools, measure accurately with a tape measure, and possess basic math skills.
Following instructions: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and experienced workers.
Safety awareness: Must be able to follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
Teamwork: Must be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.
Experience (preferred): Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, or with hand tools.
