QC Technician

Job purpose

The Quality Technician will be responsible for performing standardized quality control checks for our customers’ products to ensure they meet the conformity. While staying educated on the latest revision codes in the industry. The successful applicant will be required to develop and maintain inspection reports, maintain calibrated measuring equipment, and identify areas for quality control improvement.

To ensure success as a quality technician, the incumbent should have a strong working knowledge of mathematical concepts, excellent visual awareness, preferred to be a CWI and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision in a professional manner. Ultimately, the quality technician will efficiently monitor the integrity and quality of the customers’ products without impeding production.

Duties and responsibilities

Ensure materials are being marked / labeled properly.

Perform all inspections that require management level QC’s including First article, In process and Final inspections. Assists with lower-level quality checks as needed.

Confirm and verify all QC paperwork is complete, accurate and legible so Albina employees and Customers can reference.

Perform Ultrasonic testing per customer specifications/expectations.

Perform Dye Penetrant tests per customer specifications/expectations.

Prepare QA templates for the shop.

Prepare and review and properly save/attach JIP’s and data sheets.

Ability to learn bending math, and spiral math.

Back up the QC Manager in their absence as assigned by the Director of Quality and/or Quality Manager.

Keep up with the latest revisions of codes (remain educated)

Update the material distortion log from reports handed in with shop orders.

Review and prepare all shop orders and associated work instructions, drawings, spreadsheets, etc. for the shop / production as assigned by the Director of Quality and/or Quality Manager.

Review all orders before they are released to the shop to ensure they meet the requirements of the customer PO, drawings, and Albina quote within the established timeline.

Review terms and conditions (or have Management review as needed).

Outline special tolerances and requirements that are project / job specific- as required.

Finalize any special required QC documentation per customer requirements.

Identify orders that need to be reviewed by the Production Supervisor and/or QA Tech, for understanding.

Estimator / Project Manager is responsible for preparing spiral math sheets prior to order review. Quality Technician is responsible to review and approve the prepared sheets.

Orders need to be reviewed within 2 business days of the “ready for review date”. Exceptions can be made based on size of order, complexity of order, scope of work, etc. All exceptions need to be discussed and approved by Management and/or Project Management.

Send order confirmations to customer (if not already done) once order review is complete and the details / instructions on the order are accurate. There will be some exceptions to this rule- rush confirmations required, signed PO’s, etc. Exceptions will need to be discussed and addressed order by order between QC Manager and Project Manager.

Identify when process sheets/production instructions for repeat orders are required. Generation of process sheets/production instructions to be done by the Production Management. Once process sheets/production instructions are generated the QC Tech will review and approve.

Create efficient process instructions that can be repeated and are proven to save time.

Weld Inspection: Duties and responsibilities Minimum 2 years

Review welding documentation

Welding Procedure Specifications, building and welding plans, equipment calibration, welding materials per ASTM standards. You will be responsible for verifying that all these documents are correct.

Inspect the Pre-welding environment.

The incumbent will be responsible for inspecting base and consumable materials. They will also need to make sure that the correct cutting methods, joint positions, welder settings and even things like clamp placement and alignment are correct.

Monitor the welding process.

You will need to keep an eye on the welding process throughout production to make sure that everyone continues to follow the expectations of the standard.

Inspect Welds

Conduct inspections, identify, and supervise repairs.

Administrative completion of shop orders

Mark machines as finished in the Albina software (Order logout)

Ensure paperwork is filled out correctly for the next steps.

Complete shop orders in the Albina software and file additional paperwork according to secondary processes or shipping, in the correct folder.

Enter lengths used, scrapped and lengths to be returned (from the shop order stamp)

Remedy any administrative issues immediately to complete the logout of shop orders.

Update the material distortion log from distortion reports, handed in with completed shop orders.

Ability to identify if production notes need to be transferred to the electronic shop order and type any applicable notes in the shop order.

Ability to enter finished goods to the finished goods tab.

Other Quality Technician functions

Management, documentation and updating of the welder certification book.

Calibration and management of equipment and tools

CAR creation, investigation, and shop meetings with workers regarding CAR findings as directed by the QC Manager

Spreadsheet management for larger projects

Sets, revises, and establishes company QA standards- as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively to the Shop Foremen/Production Manager

Communication and management of 3{rd} party inspectors

Qualifications

CWI (Certified Weld Inspector) preferred.

Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and Word

Ability to measure parts as it relates to the industry.

Ability to read blueprints/drawings.

Ability to problem solve with little to no supervision.

Ability to think critically.

Ability to coach and perform to the Albina Co. quality standards.

Ability to professionally work with and develop employees.

Ability to operate CMM with programming experience.

Ability to operate the Hololens hardware and Fab Station software.

Ability to work in Bluebeam/BendPro/AutoCAD

Ability to discuss issues with customers, customer service.

Ability to communicate at a high level with professionalism and courtesy both verbally and written.

Working conditions/Physical requirements

The Quality Technician will be required to stand for half or over half of the business day. Bending, kneeling, and reaching to measure parts. May occasionally need to climb a ladder. Will work in temperatures that are representative of a working shop environment as well as an office setting. Ability to lift 50 Lbs. Max
