We are seeking a dedicated Choir / Music Director to help shape our music ministry in ways that honor our Christian tradition, reflect our welcoming and inclusive values, and inspire our community for the future.

Role Summary

This is a part-time position: roughly 5-8 hours per week, beginning January 1, 2026.

It is a twelve-month position, from September 1 to May 31, averaging 8 hours/week, and from June 1-August 31st, averaging 5 hours/week.

As Choir / Music Director, you will lead Sunday morning worship music (9:30-11:30 am), direct weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals (7-8:30 pm), plan music for special services/holidays (Christmas Eve, Easter, etc.), and collaborate with our pastor, accompanist, and other staff and volunteer musicians to align our congregation’s music program with our mission, values, and worship themes.

The position is supervised by the Pastor and supported by the Personnel committee.

Key Responsibilities

Direct choir and lead music during Sunday morning worship services

Direct Wednesday evening choir rehearsals

Coordinate volunteers for our 10-person Choir, Worship Band, and Special Musicians

Schedule and plan special worship 5-6 times/year (Christmas Eve, Easter, etc.)

Work with the worship team and Pastor in selecting repertoire and integrating music into weekly worship

Manage the music library, licensing, and any needed logistical/organizational tasks related to worship music

Communicate weekly with Pastor and Administrator for the worship bulletin

Meet monthly with Staff/Volunteers for Music/Worship Planning

Qualifications

Strong song-leading ability and understanding of choral music

Proficiency on piano, guitar, or another instrument suitable for worship

Strong organizational and communication skills

Experience coordinating volunteers and ensembles

Experience in church music or other worship settings

Familiarity with progressive Christian values and inclusive communities

Familiarity with Zoom, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and social media

Compensation & Schedule

Pay: $25-$33 / hour, depending on experience

Benefits: Paid sick time, flexible schedule, flexible unpaid vacation

Hours: 5-8 per week, Sundays/Wednesdays required on-site in Hillsboro

Start Date: January 1, 2026
