Office Assistant (Seasonal & Field-Support Capable)
Location: Surface Nursery, Inc. – Gresham, OR
Pay: Starting at $22/hour, depending on experience
Schedule: 32-40 hours, some flexibility required based on seasonal workload.
About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive, adaptable Office Assistant to join our small, fast-paced team in a role that blends administrative support with hands-on fieldwork. This is not a typical desk job—the right candidate will be comfortable balancing detailed office tasks with occasional outdoor work, getting their hands dirty when needed, and learning a variety of responsibilities that shift with the seasons.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a flexible environment, is eager to learn, and wants to contribute to the success of a growing and evolving operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Office Duties:
Data entry, filing, and maintaining organized documentation.
Assisting with order tracking, shipping documentation, and inventory records.
Answering phones, taking messages, and supporting communication between departments.
Assisting in the creation and proofreading of reports, labels, planting maps, and internal documents.
Helping maintain the office calendar and schedules for seasonal tasks.
Field/Hands-On Support:
Assisting with field checks, labeling, plant tagging, and organizing materials as needed.
Supporting inventory counts.
Occasionally assisting with light labor tasks related to nursery operations (weather-appropriate clothing and a willingness to get dirty required).
Team Support:
Cross-training to help support multiple departments, including shipping and inventory.
Participating in seasonal planning and preparation.
Backing up team members during busy periods or absences.
Must be willing to drive for work purposes.
The role may include additional responsibilities outside the primary job description to support overall operations.
Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Willingness to work outdoors and get dirty when needed.
Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and seasonal tasks.
Clear communicator, both written and verbal.
Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Email).
Able to lift up to 30 lbs and move around on uneven terrain occasionally.
A positive, can-do attitude and team-oriented mindset.
This position may require driving for work-related tasks. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
Previous experience in agriculture, nursery work, or shipping/logistics is a plus—but not required.
