Powell’s Books, the largest independent bookseller in the world, has one or more openings for regular full-time Lead Generalist positions at our Powell’s Books kiosk at the Portland International Airport.

Candidates should have an interest in, and an aptitude for, upholding the highest customer service standards, and model engaged and knowledgeable interactions with customers. Lead Generalists resourcefully problem-solve, take an active role in employee training, and are an excellent resource to coworkers. The role works closely with the Store Managers, and is well suited to demonstrate and develop leadership skills.

There will also be opportunities for successful Lead candidates to work as Heads of Staff. Heads of Staff play an important leadership role in the store by providing additional operational support throughout the day. This support is key to keeping the store humming smoothly and with these added responsibilities, the company pays an additional $1.25 per hour for all 37.5 hours worked.

Lead Generalists at PDX work one of two types of schedules, focusing either on morning shifts that start as early as 5:30am, or on evening shifts that end as late as 8:00pm. Each schedule is consistent from week to week.

The starting wage for these positions is $18.75 per hour.

Successful candidates for this position will be required to pass a 10 year background check with the Port of Portland.
