Canby Utility has an opening for a water utility worker to complement its distribution crew. This individual will perform work in construction, maintenance, operation, inspections, and repairs of our water distribution system. This position can be physically demanding.
Examples of Qualifications:
Utility Worker I position is an entry-level water worker position that requires a Water Distribution (WD) Level 1 Certification within 18 months of hire and a valid Oregon Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) upon hire. Previous experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of underground utility infrastructure preferred; however, on the job training is provided.
Examples of Job Duties:
Job skills and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the ability to learn or knowledge of installing, replacing, repairing and maintaining water mains, valves, meters, and hydrants; operation of dump trucks, jack hammers, backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and other industry related tools and equipment essential to the work.
Desirable qualifications include: Oregon WD Certification Level I, forklift experience, construction experience, heavy equipment operation experience, competent person trained, and flagger certification. Many of these desirable qualifications can be obtained after hire. This position has an approximate 60-minute response residency requirement that must be obtained within 1 year of hire date. Employees are subject to before/after normal working hours calls for emergency response.
Canby Utility offers an excellent schedule and benefits package. Canby Utility’s operations are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for the employee and family (100% of premiums paid), Oregon PERS/Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP) with the employee's 6% contribution paid for by the utility. Monthly contributions of $175 to the employee’s HRA-VEBA account for medical-related expenses, a voluntary 401(k) and 457 deferred compensation plan, an Employee Assistance Program, and additional voluntary supplemental benefit options. Canby Utility offers 9 paid or banked holidays (Saturday provision for banking holidays under a 4/10 workweek schedule). Paid sick leave consists of 8 hours per month, 96 hours per year, after 90 days of employment. One week of vacation at six months and another week at one year. Benefits are outlined in the Canby Utility collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 125.
