Seasonal Flower Farmer/Florist

Part-Time Flower Farmer/Florist (24-30 hours/week) for this growing season March to November. Workdays will be mostly weekdays but with Saturdays as needed during the wedding season.

This job will be a good fit for someone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of flowers, from seed to vase. You will participate in the full range of farming tasks including care of perennial crops, seeding, greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, and harvest. You will also have a hand in floristry including making market bouquets, weddings and events, drying flowers, and making wreaths.

An individual who is passionate about growing flowers, can work fast while maintaining quality standards, and has an eye for visual appeal will thrive. Previous experience in a bustling, physical environment (such as a farm or busy restaurant) and an appreciation for repetitive tasks and being on your feet all day is very helpful. We look for people who are organized, personable, nurturing, positive, kind, and enthusiastic about the work.

The ideal candidate will have previous commercial farming experience. Floristry experience is a bonus. However, there is a lot to learn! We don't expect you to know all the tasks, we're happy to teach. Most of the time you'll be working along side us until you are comfortable to take on a task on your own.

Qualifications:

A good work ethic, commitment to a job well done

Ability to work in a small team and also independently

Good listening skills and ability to follow directions

Punctuality and reliability

Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment

Ability to commit to the season

How to apply: If you are interested in applying, please send an email to Heather Staten at heather@heathersflowerfarm.com with your resume and a bit about yourself and your interest in farming and floristry.

Company Description: The season is about to kick off and we are looking for creative, hardworking people to join our team. We grow the flowers we use in our arrangements at our Hood River farm, which means they are always vibrantly fresh and full of life. We specialize in heirloom and unusual varieties that are not available to the mainstream commercial florist trade. Our arrangements celebrate the season and have a wild, garden-gathered look even though we put a lot of thought into putting them together.

The farm started seven years ago and we have grown to an acre of intensive production. You’ll be amazed by how much we produce in a relatively small space. The flower crops are a diverse mix of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and bulbs. The design studio focuses on a thriving wedding and event floral business and weekly bouquet subscriptions. We expect to do a wedding every weekend during the 2025 growing season.

Our crops are grown using organic methods and we practice a permanent bed system to reduce compaction and overworking the soil. We value working with nature and seek to incorporate native plantings, cover crops, and compost amendments into our flower production.

We are looking for a part-time farmer/florist to help the season go smoothly and fulfill our goal of growing flowers and creating arrangements that blow our customers’ minds.
