Silver Creek Montessori School is a small school located in Silverton, Oregon. We are currently seeking a creative, motivated, and experienced assistant for our Primary students starting in September 2019.
Role & Responsibilities:
The assistants main job is to assist the Guides in maintaining an orderly, smoothly functioning environment, so that the Guides can give lessons and oversee the childrens work. The ability to work independently as well as with others are two of the many essential functions of this position. The ability to work alongside others with compassion, clarity and inspiration, an open mind, a sense of humor and flexibility are also highly desired. The ideal candidate is patient, kind, efficient, and a team player. The hours are from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities include:
Protect the integrity of lessons given by the Guide by redirecting children and preventing interruptions.
Respond to direction from the Guide to assist or intervene with children as needed.
Assist children as needed and as directed by the Guide, but in a manner that supports childrens independence.
Assist children with conflict resolution.
Position yourself in the classroom according to the Guides direction, generally maintaining a calm, non-distracting presence.
Prepare snacks as needed, involving children as appropriate.
Observe childrens behavior and activity as directed by the Guide, and communicate appropriately.
Helping children with toileting and hygiene needs.
Material preparation.
Preparing/assisting/leading games and activities in collaboration with the Guide
Handling First Aid needs.
Requirements:
Experience working with young children
Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry.
Current CPR/1st Aid, RRCAN, and Food Handlers.
Completion of Child Care Health and Safety training.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to meet Office of Child Care requirements, including previous employment within a licensed childcare facility and a background in Early Childhood Education.
Preferred Experience, Qualifications, and Attributes:
Montessori or Reggio experience or knowledge preferred
Fluency in Spanish a plus
