Associate R&I Rubber Scientist

The Associate Scientist will conduct research and development efforts for CCM products. The role will focus on leading qualifications and changes in rubber formulations at plant to achieve cost savings, improved manufacturability, improved quality assurance, and supply chain continuity. It may also include leading rubber formulation changes for line extensions, sustainability and new product development. This position will conduct research using the latest technologies across the full lifecycle of product development from laboratory-, pilot-, and plant-scale processing equipment to create new products and building assemblies, test methods, formulations, and processing techniques. Effective communication of this knowledge will be demonstrated by routinely guiding, coaching, and mentoring technical staff, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with stakeholders within and outside the organization. This position will operate under the general guidance of R&I EPDM Manager.Primary Responsibilities:

Leading research activities on new and existing products as well as identifying and implementing new technologies within the rubber business group.

Leading multiple Innovation and New Product Development projects critical to support and grow the rubber roofing business.

Utilizing advance material characterization techniques to establish structure property relationships of polymer materials.

Leading Research and development activities at bench and pilot scale to substantiate new rubber formulations.

Leading rubber formulation qualifications at plant to specify and validate formulations for routine production focused on cost savings, supply chain continuity, quality assurance, improved manufacturability, line extensions, sustainability and new product development.

Managing the technical projects from ideation through scale up to commercialization.

Supporting the rubber roofing business through new product development, processing and performance improvement, raw material qualification and cost reduction projects.

Collaborating with sales, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, warranty departments and CCM staff on defined project priorities, project scope and future development directions.

Publish technical reports, conduct technical presentations, and champion safety

A Bachelor's or Master's in Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or Chemistry

2+ years of industrial experience in the development of polymer products in R&I and supply chain role. Candidates exhibiting experience in the development of rubber products are desired

Experience in associated polymer processing technologies such as mixing, extrusion and calendaring are a plus

Knowledge to analyze data, understand structure property relationships of polymers and conduct relative testing and evaluations

Experience with FTIR, DSC, TGA and rheology analysis of polymers

Training or experience on the design of experiments, especially as applied to development of chemical formulations

Project management skills in a cross functional environment

Strong collaboration skills with focus on delivering results in cross-functional matrix organization

Ability to communicate effectively

Progressive interpersonal skills-oral communication, written communication

Knowledge to problem solving techniques.
