The Clinical Prevention Specialist is a paid opening of up to 16 hours per week. This individual will assist the counselor with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention initiatives and wellness programs. This opening provides assessment and counseling to university community members, including students, with mental health needs, including but not limited to those with alcohol and drug issues.
Job DutiesProvide individual and group counseling to clients according to individualized treatment plans; complete triage and crisis appointments as needed and assigned by Campus Mental Health Counselor.
Assess and provide case management services and attend to any referral clients for additional psychiatric or substance use treatment as needed and assigned by Campus Mental Counselor.
Utilize an array of treatment approaches to meet individual or group needs (i.e. cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation training, and motivational interviewing).
Provide individual and group counseling services in the areas of drugs, alcohol, and overall health.
Document patient notes and communications, perform assessments and make recommendations for further assessments.
Consult and collaborate with University partners as needed.
Develop, present, and assess educational and prevention programming to campus constituents; support programs that focus on the overall health and wellbeing of the Penn State Community.
Engage in outreach activities associated with student life programming.
Participate in the development of yearly campus-wide social norming messages related to substance use and abuse.
May participate as a member of the Partnership for Prevention.
Serve on committees as assigned including those within Student Affairs.
Develop a collaborative relationship with other College/University departments and community organizations and serve on committees.
Participate in clinical supervision regularly with Campus Mental Health Counselor.
Assisting with the coordination the meditation room and providing one-on-one meditation and mindfulness sessions with students.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicant must hold a Master's Degree in a counseling related field and be licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure in counseling or social work.
Applicant must have strong computer skills; work independently and in a friendly, welcoming manner; follow directions; and maintain confidentiality.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills.
