Utz Quality Foods is looking to grow our loyal, career driven, and customer focused team, and are currently recruiting for a Back-Up Machine Operator to join our team of manufacturing professionals in Hanover, PA at our High Street facility on the week night shift.
As a Back-Up Machine Operator, this candidate will be responsible to substitute for Packaging Machine Operators during breaks, lunches, illness and vacations. This position will be required to work from Monday-Thursday 5:55PM - 5:55AM.
Key Responsibilities
Supplies production lines with needed materials.
Places skids of cardboard at tables and packing stations.
Moves product from packing area to warehouse by pulling handjack filled with product.
Must have or be able to obtain forklift license.
Substitutes for Packaging Machine Operator during breaks, lunches, illness and vacations.
Transports rolls of packaging film.
Ability to lift roll stock (80 lbs.) onto packaging machine chest level every 1 to 2 hours.
Changes code blocks to appropriate daily and weekly code and price; sets weights.
Basic understanding of vertical form and fill packing machines.
Starts and stops power to the machine, vibrator and conveyor.
Operates labeling equipment.
Assists the Packaging Machine Operator as needed.
Requires working proactively in a cross-functional team with diverse groups of people.
Requirements
Requires basic math and reading skills.
Must be willing and able to stand 100% of the time
Requires knowledge of product quality and production processes.
Prior Machine Operating experience.
Prior Food Manufacturing experience is preferred.
Mechanically inclined.
Moderate lifting (40lbs).

This position will be required to work from Monday-Thursday 6:00PM-6:00AM.
As a packaging machine operator, this candidate will be responsible to operate packaging machines as efficiently as possible in a team atmosphere and provide assistance to the Lineperson as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for proper packaging line set up.
Performs Daily Operator checklist at shift change and startup.
Verifies proper operations and operating scales on packaging machines.
Gathers packaging film from warehouse.
Ensures proper codes and price are printed on packages.
Uses proper former and adjusts temperature to have a proper seal on all packages.
Continuously monitors package for the following hourly:
Item weight,
Proper seal of package, and
Codes and price.
Records film usage data and calculates film waste percentage.
Works harmoniously with others in a team atmosphere.
Communicates to incoming shift machine operator any difficulties or improvements.
Maintains efficient methods of operation on all lines.
Reports any and all conditions that could lead to product contamination.
Assists the Maintenance Department in packaging machine repair when necessary.
Responsible to assist in training new operators.
Maintains an organized and sanitary work environment at all times.
Performs daily and end of week sanitation as directed by supervision.
Completes all bag percentage report and records end of day production. Checks scanning
errors and corrects
Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position

As a Packaging Machine Operator, this candidate will be responsible to prepare the machines for the start of production and make adjustments when packaging different products. This position will be required to work from Friday - Sunday 5:55PM - 5:55AM.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares machine for start of production and makes adjustments when packaging different products.
Changes rolls of packaging and ink tape as necessary.
Samples the seals on five empty bags an hour.
Judges speed of machine necessary to keep production on schedule.
Verifies gram weight every hour.
Occasionally climbs ladders; heavy lifting (up to 95 lbs.) required.
Carries tubs of chips from bad bags up the ladder to platform of packaging machine and empties into the machine.
Must possess the ability required to run assigned machines efficiently and minimize downtime.
Must have the ability to fill out all appropriate paperwork, such as impression counts and make calculations from scanning activity.
Responsible to follow all safety rules and work safely at all times.
Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position.
Responsible to report unsafe equipment and practices to supervisor.
Must adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices.
Requires working proactively in a cross-functional team with diverse groups of people.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

As a Baker, this candidate will be responsible for monitoring oven operations through the use of a computer screen. This position will be required to work Sunday-Wednesday 5:55 PM - 5:55 AM.
Key Responsibilities
Monitors oven operations through the use of a computer screen.
Records oven/kiln temperature, measures the caustic percentage of cooker, and makes adjustment within the baking process for superior quality.
Documents all required information and downtime; records mixing room climate (temperature/humidity).
Monitors assigned lines to enforce proper settings for scheduled pretzel production.
Maintains quality by performing tests.
Continuously checks conveyors and equipment and communicates issues to supervisor or maintenance.
Changes ingredient totes as needed; empties completely and rinses off top before returning to the warehouse.
Removes full salt barrels and replaces with empty barrels. Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
Maintains an organized and sanitary environment performing daily housekeeping in oven room from cooker to end of oven; assists with weekly clean up.
Communicates production information to other shifts.
Substitutes for Extruder Operator, Extruded Pretzel Dough Mixer, Twister, Proofer, and Mixer for breaks and lunches.
Trains inexperienced employees assigned to processing and promotes safe working habits.
Requires working proactively in a cross-functional team with diverse groups of people.
