Restoration Department Superintendent Job DescriptionSummary/Objective Perform masonry restoration work such as mortar joint tuckpointing, masonry repair/replacement, masonry façade cleaning, joint sealant recaulking and other wall façade repairs. Also includes some traditional masonry construction work such as laying brick, block, precast concrete, and natural stone. Essential Functions
All work is to be performed professionally and safely
Remove deteriorated mortar and install new mortar joints
Remove and replace deteriorated/damaged masonry such as brick, block, and stone
Install through-wall flashings at walls, vents, and other surfaces
Perform façade repairs to help maintain buildings and prevent/stop water infiltration
Lays and aligns bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures
Mixes mortar (sand, cement, lime, etc.) by hand or machine
Cleans construction site to eliminate possible hazards
Loads and unloads truck
Washes and treats wall surfaces using cleaning and water repellent restoration products as specified
Erects scaffolding and works out of aerial equipment to work above ground level
Receives instructions from supervisor
Abides by all OSHA and Houck safety guidelines
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

Member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 5 or willing to join
Work Environment
Functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The standard work environment has loud to very loud noise levels associated with various equipment, coworkers, and phone conversations. Often work must be performed in high and/or cramped workspaces and awkward positions. The employee works around hazardous situations, materials, and equipment.
Physical Demands
Physical demands are based on the ability to perform the following actions throughout an 8–10 hour period of work for a 4-7 day work week.
Exert oneself physically over long periods of time during the workday
Bend stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and other extremities, climb and/or balance yourself
Use one’s abdominal muscles and lower back to lift continuously over time without fatiguing
Exert maximum muscle force to lift, pull, or carry objects
Keep or regain one’s body balance or to stay upright
Lift up to 50-100 pounds on occasion and up to 50 pounds regularly
Excellent vision skills (with or without correction) are required
Ability to clearly hear within speech range in an environment with construction noise
