Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ELECTRONICS DIGITAL COMPUTER MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0677000 and is part of the PA Combined Support Maintenance Shop East, National Guard. 1 or more Position(s) may be hired against this Announcement. Responsibilities As an Electronic Digital Computer Mechanic, WG-2608-11, you will install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the computer systems supported by the office. Such equipment includes micro-computers (laptops and desk-top processors), plotters, and related peripherals. Peripherals include printers, monitors, terminals, tape drives, scanners, auxiliary power packs, cables, keyboards, etc. Schedule and conduct preventative and periodic maintenance. Evaluate and make recommendations concerning the maintainability of proposed system hardware for possible procurement. Survey sites for new systems and coordinate installation of necessary telephone and cable lines to permit proper installation. Modify existing systems to permit the installation of memory and program upgrades. Determine whether equipment may be economically repaired or declared unserviceable. Make final operational test alignment, system synchronization and adjustment prior to release of equipment. Coordinate with manufacturers on repairs when economically or technically warranted. Provide new equipment users with general operational instruction. Maintain bench stock to include repair parts such as replacement boards, chips, cables, etc. Utilize various types of test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and logic probes. Also use special and common hand tools, power tools, and gauges to make repairs. Order test equipment and repair parts. Maintain library of repair manuals, schematics, and related reference materials as well as the maintenance and repair logs for equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications APPOINTMENT STATUS: EXCEPTED This is a Dual Status Excepted Service Technician position in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Bargaining Position AOC 1: NG Employees working at the location specified AOC 2: NG Employees of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC 3: All Service Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard (to include Temporary Technicians Military Grades: Enlisted: E1-E8 Supervisor for this position is MSG Bordner GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must Indicate 18 months of experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic digital computers. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.
