Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1195000 and is part of the PA Unit Training Equipment Site, National Guard. 2 or more Position(s) may be hired against this Announcement. Responsibilities As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-11, you will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, power shovels, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, all terrain vehicles, semi trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. Troubleshoot equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools. Remove and disassemble engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. Conduct readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. Perform electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems requiring extensive training on specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems. Assist in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications APPOINTMENT STATUS: EXCEPTED This is a Dual Status Excepted Service Technician position in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Bargaining Position AOC 1: NG Employees working at the location specified AOC 2: NG Employees of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC 3: All Service Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard (to include Temporary Technicians) AOC 4: Service Members currently serving in another branch and are willing to become members of the Pennsylvania National Guard Military Grades: Enlisted: E1-E8 Supervisor for this position is MSG Soles GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.? SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must indicate at least 18 months experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.
