Location: Monroeville, PennsylvaniaJob Title: Finance Intern (Summer 2025)Status: InternHourly Range: $19.60 - $25.50Hourly rate commensurate with education and experience.Job SummaryAs a Finance Intern at BPMI, you will perform financial functions which provide for the planning of resource allocations and the recognition of cost through various budgeting and accounting vehicles. You will establish, administer, and audit controls and procedures to validate accuracy of account balances, financial statements, and budgetary information to ensure compliance with Corporate and Government policies. Identify problems and/or improvement opportunities, develop and recommend solution alternatives and implement solution to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of financial operations and to support the advancement of financial and business expertise.This opportunity will begin Summer 2025, working a full-time schedule (40 hours/week). Please note, this is not a remote position. You will be expected to come into the office for this opportunity.Our internship will give you the opportunity to work in your field of study while simultaneously pursuing your bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. These opportunities can enhance your academic training while teaching critical business skills and allowing you to learn about BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.Essential Duties:

Perform accounting and/or finance functions to support ongoing financial operations with significant oversight. This includes tasks such as processing of transactions, recording cost allocations and distributions, reconciling data, performing variance analyses, obtaining and verifying financial forecasts, and preparing accounting statements and financial reporting products (e.g., Family of Reports, Naval Reactors Technical Budget Plan, OPN/SCN budget and cost management reports, prime contract proposals, Program budgets).

Prepare contractually required reports, internal control reports, or other reports as requested by management.

Review and verify accuracy of entries and accounting classifications, summarize key areas of concern, and highlight problems to present to management.

Monitor reports and financial statements for progress against financial performance objectives, ensuring data is complete, valid, and accurate, and identify items requiring corrective actions.

Prepare responses to requests from internal customers, Government personnel, and auditors for review by more senior financial analysts or management prior to delivery to the appropriate recipient. Perform peer reviews of products as requested.

Perform appraisals to monitor compliance with policies and procedures and maintain policies and procedures in assigned areas. Respond to internal questions regarding accounting/finance procedures and requirements. Perform peer reviews of updated policies and procedures. Maintain desk procedures for assigned responsibilities.

Understand and comply with established processes for financial functions in areas of assigned responsibilities. Collect metric data to monitor the efficiency of a process. Maintain the mapping of established processes.

Develop functional requirements to support changes to computer applications that will simplify financial operations or effect improved internal controls. Conduct testing of system changes and document results accordingly.

Learn and understand the products and processes of the accounting and/or finance functions within the NR Program. Apply lessons learned from previous knowledge and experience to financial operations and suggest improvements to management as appropriate.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or equivalent, or MBA, from an accredited college or university.

Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (60 credits).

Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:

Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
