SUMMARYThe ideal candidate for this position will collaborate closely with the Pre-Trial Unit. This person will act as a bridge between the Public Defender Office, thirty (30) Magisterial Courts, and various law enforcement departments located in Montgomery County. The Office Support Person will work autonomously to fulfill the duties of the Pre-Trial Unit, including, but not restricted to filing, compiling statistics, composing light correspondence, and arranging hearings between the district courts, Public Defender Office and local police. Furthermore, this candidate will be the contact person responsible for receiving and distributing pretrial evidence to our legal team. They will also be responsible for responding to high-volume phone calls, assisting incoming applicants in receiving representation and providing assistance to other support staff personnel as needed.The Montgomery County Office of the Public Defender is committed to delivering the highest standard of legal representation to adults and juveniles in criminal matters, including trial, sentencing, and appeals. Assist clients, internal, and external customers at front counter;

Assist staff attorneys with copying and locating files;

Assist office support personnel with copying, filing, etc. as needed;

Answer a high volume of phone calls, ensuring questions are answered appropriately and directed to the appropriate individual or office;

Process walk-in applications within 48 hours of reception unless hearing scheduled sooner;

Process preliminary hearing drawer to ensure files are prepared and given to team leader for assignment;

Process incoming mail and distribute to office;

Perform additional duties as specified by the Office Manager and Unit Chief.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo be successful in this role, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the essential duties satisfactorily. High School Diploma/GED;

General knowledge of office workflows;

Must type min. 35 wpm;

Experience in using Office 365, including OneDrive, Dynamics and related apps;

Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects;

Muse be able to work independently with little supervision

Fluency in Spanish highly preferred, but not required.
