Job Details

We have an immediate opening for a mechanical engineer. The primary responsibilities are to support the development of optical products and technology. This work would involve transforming novel component design concepts into working models and documents using computer aided design (CAD) software. Our mechanical engineers work closely with other engineers in evaluating and improving designs that meet product performance standards. Creativity is emphasized in this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

Create mechanical design concepts and detailed mechanical drawings for outside vendors to fabricate components and fixtures.
Create 3D models of new mechanical components and assemblies.
Knowledge of machining process tolerances to provide designs that are in proper tolerance and in-line with tooling and fabrication supplier capabilities.
Working with other engineers to ensure that thorough engineering analyses have been completed and risks to quality, cost, and delivery have been identified.
Conducting effective design reviews to share your work and gather feedback for alternatives and improvements.
Creation of customer reference documentation and manufacturing process instructions and plans.
Maintain a bill of materials (BOM) for assemblies and work with multiple vendors to ensure all components are received within required schedule constraints.
Troubleshooting manufacturing and customer issues.
Assemble opto-mechanical mechanisms and assemblies and coordinate with other engineers to perform testing to ensure performance requirements are met.
Testing, light assembly, and machining of components.
Requirements:

B.S. or M.S. degree in mechanical engineering, with at least 2 years of experience in the field.
Experienced in using 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
Experience in GD&T and mechanical drawings.
Experienced in modeling static, thermal, stress, and dynamic scenarios using FEA software, preferably SolidWorks Simulation.
Motivated - A self-starter able to multi-task, problem solve, and take initiative.
Able to handle competing deliverables with various levels of complexity.
Desired Skills and Experience:

Optomechanical design experience.
Experience in product data management systems, preferably SolidWorks PDM.
Experience working in a small R&D company environment.
CNC machining and programming experience.
