Jabebo Studio provides a unique STEAM environment for creative individuals to use as a platform in building their careers. Employees receive opportunities to participate in the Science, the Art and the Making of our unique products using old school and new technologies. On the business side you can learn about processing orders, Quickbooks, and working with customers. Through our retail space you will be able to interact with local visitors and as an artist there is the opportunity to display your work in the store.
We hire multi-talented individuals to function in a variety of roles. Being a small business with a limited number of positions, our employees change jobs throughout the week. We are looking for people who enjoy multitasking environments as well as focused "zone" work. The following is a breakdown of the type of work our employees are involved in. We do not expect candidates to necessarily be great at or have experience in all these aspects. The actual position may conform to suit your abilities. In the interview we will encourage an honest self-evaluation on how you believe you can fulfill or aspire to each of the following.
Production of earrings, our primary product, will occupy the most time. People who do not enjoy working "in the zone", or who find repetitive work tedious will not be an ideal fit. You will often be asked to do one repetitive task for 90 minutes before moving on to another task. Steady hands and the ability to train them to do precise repetitive work quickly is a requirement. However, you often have the option to listen to music, podcasts, or similar while working on such tasks.
Animal and nature scene illustration is highly desired. Hands-on creativity and skills with graphic software such as Photoshop or Illustrator is also appreciated. Experience and interest in website design and maintenance is helpful.
Processing orders and retail sales along with general office management and administrative work is likely to be a part of the job. We need people who will be a friend to order in an environment that trends towards chaos. Maintaining neat work areas and learning and following our organizational protocols is a requirement.
The ability to learn our systems of management such as Quickbooks and production spreadsheets is necessary. You must be able to make entries without errors, and thus, you will need to know to what extent you need to double check your work to be sure it is done so.
Currently, we have a 20 -24 hr/wk position with a pay range from $10 to $12 per hour. In addition there is bonus pay tied to production and seasonal bonuses after a year of employment to compensate for time off. Employees are asked to follow a regular weekly schedule but there is flexibility in arranging time off.
Jabebo LLC is a growing business with a market that covers North America and serves retail operations in visitor centers located in museums, nature centers, parks, wildlife refuges and many interesting retail shops with an interest in art, science and nature. Ninety percent of our business is wholesale to such locations and our market is steadily expanding.
For a qualified person who demonstrates a strong interest in what we are doing and and in our mission statement, there is potential for a pathway to more solid career position working for our business. To promote an interest in science and natural biodiversity through the design and marketing of our product. Our designs are colorful, detailed and well researched to appeal to educators and all who have an interest in science and nature.
To promote recycling by using cereal boxes in the construction of the earrings and or other paper pulp products. This feature is visible in the final product and an important part of the product message.
To support the parks, wildlife refuges, nature centers, museums and other institutions that protect natural habitat and/or support science education by providing a product that relates to their mission and helps to generate revenue for their programs through sales to their visitors. In a similar way we support museums and a variety of retail stores with a focus on nature and/or education.
To function in our local community as a curiosity-inspiring retail store with unique science, nature, and local handiwork gifts.
To provide our community with a place they can recycle their cereal boxes and get a tour of our studio where they can see in person how we turn them into new products.

Applicants will be asked to show strong skills and an affinity for repetitive handiwork in the form of an art or craft. You may bring work in to demonstrate and/or we may ask that you perform some skills with your hands at the interview.
Secondly, if you have experience and an affinity for organization, process protocols, and/or knowledge of Quickbooks, Excel, or Google sheets, or web design and maintenance then come prepared to speak about these experiences.
Third, bringing a portfolio or sending us a link to your illustration and design work is recommended, especially if your work involves nature scenes and animal illustration.
