While this role will conduct GAAP accountant work, this person will also be the troubleshooter to ensure our claims, revenue and billing process through to our general ledgers properly. This person will partner with our operations areas to understand how these processes work and to resolve errors. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Job Summary:
Prepares journal entries for certain general ledger accounts
Analyzes and reconciles accounts and performs inquiries to reconcile variances, e.g. general ledger balances vs. subsidiary ledgers
Addresses the usual and customary decisions, transactions and tasks associated with certain accounts
Prepares all transactions in accordance with sound accounting practices and IBC policies
Performs work in accordance with company deadlines
Actively participates in the completion of the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes
Assists in providing responses to all questions and requests for information as it relates to certain general ledger accounts
Assists with special projects as it relates to certain general ledger accounts
Understands and can effectively communicate with respect to the activity recorded in assigned general ledger accounts; performs and appropriately documents analytical analyses on a monthly basis
Assists with updating process and controls documentation for the functional area and assists with updating key controls for Model Audit Rule (MAR) purposes.

BS/BA (Accounting preferred)
CPA not required
Working knowledge of US GAAP and specific practices/procedures associated with certain general ledger accounts
Good written and oral communication skills
Two to Four years of progressively more responsible experience in accounting
Working knowledge of supporting technologies (i.e. PeopleSoft) and large ERP systemsWorking knowledge in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point) and working knowledge of other tools (i.e. MS Access)Independence Blue Cross is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
