Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. Our R&D organization has a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core/Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP comparable work, and a large non-clinical program for animal testing under GLP including large NHP and rodent vivaria.Job DescriptionThe Associate Director of Large Animal Research Support has overall responsibility for managing all research activities conducted by the PCM large animal program across multiple vivaria and up to 10 technicians. The Associate Director is responsible for oversight of scheduling, coordination of work schedules, oversight of management of the in-life phase of gene therapy research studies involving large animals including nonhuman primates, dogs, pigs, rabbits, and cats. The Associate Director works with research and project management to plan efficiently and ensure financial and resource implications are understood to better inform decision making. The Associate Director will also ensure operations are conducted in accordance with UPENN, AAALAC, USDA, OLAW, and GLP standards.Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -Provide leadership to staff within your reporting structure ensuring they have adequate training and professional development plans-Study implementation, scheduling and completion for research and GLP studies-Review and suggest edits/improvements to study protocols-Development of standard operating procedures-Ensuring study support services are billed for accurately and in a timely manner-Ensuring regulatory compliance with University of Pennsylvania animal care and use policies, AAALAC, USDA, PHS, and GLP-Maintain AAALAC accreditation of satellite facilities (including preparation of Written Program Description)- Manage program budgets and cost controls- Provide core training on a sustained and ongoing basis.Qualifications:MS Degree in Animal or Life Science Minimum 5+ years experience working with laboratory animals including nonhuman primates.
