Department: Business and TransactionsBallard Spahr LLP a national law firm with over 600 lawyers in 15 offices across the country is seeking an Estate Specialist/Tax Accountant to prepare the tax filings for clients of our Private Client Services practice. The selected individual must have substantial experience in the preparation of Federal gift tax returns and Federal and State and income tax returns including fiduciary, individual, partnership tax returns, partnership accounting, and in calculating applicable estimated tax payments. The selected individual will keep abreast of relevant tax law developments and changes. This is a hybrid position and offers a work schedule of 3 days a week in the Philadelphia or Minneapolis office.Our Estate Specialist/Tax Accountant will:Prepare Federal and State fiduciary income tax returns including individual and partnership tax returns, partnership accounting, and calculating individual estimated tax payments and liquidity estimates. CPA or enrolled agent preferred.Prepare Federal and State estate and gift tax returns.Prepare trust accountings including conservatorship and estate accountings to be filed with the appropriate court.Prepare foundation tax returns, including 990PFs and application for recognition of exemption (Form 1023).Remain current on relevant tax law developments and changes.Prepare probate and related papers.Gather and arrange for valuation of decedents' assets.Oversee fiduciary accounting and bookkeeping.The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior organizational and problem solving skills and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Be self-motivated, results-orientated professional exuding integrity and able to build trust and credibility with all parties. Have a keen attention to detail and accuracy, outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to interact with a broad range of people, ability to communicate effectively and establish a good rapport with clients.Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in the legal environment. Mathematical proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required.Must be willing to accept responsibilities that may demand a commitment of more than 40 hours per week, particularly in peak seasons. Job Duties: Participates in tax and consulting engagements and enhances skills identifying and addressing client needs Works with clients and their advisors to gather information needed to prepare tax returns Prepares complex individual, trust, estate, S-Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns, both Federal and State jurisdictions, while demonstrating the ability to follow instructions and actively seek feedback Reviews basic individual and trust tax returns and provides written and verbal feedback to staff and interns Analyzes tax notices received from government agencies and prepares initial drafts of response Identifies technical issues, conducts advanced tax research, and develops sound recommendations for PCS leadership Works in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment both independently and within a team dynamic Prioritizes and completes tasks Collaborates and builds new relationships with other new professionals both inside and outside the firm Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise and manage the day-to-day work assignments of PCS Associates Provides verbal and written performance feedback to PCS Associates, as necessary Acts as mentor to PCS Associates
